1 Châm Ngôn của Sa-lô-môn, Con Trai Đa-vít, Vua của Y-sơ-ra-ên;
2 Để biết sự khôn ngoan và lời giáo huấn;
Để hiểu những lời sáng suốt;
3 Để nhận lấy lời giáo huấn cho đời sống khôn ngoan,
Công chính, công bình và bình đẳng;
4 Để ban cho người dại dột sự khôn ngoan;
Cho người trẻ tuổi sự hiểu biết và suy xét.
5 Nguyện người khôn ngoan sẽ nghe và tăng thêm sự học vấn;
Người sáng suốt sẽ nhận được sự hướng dẫn;
6 Để hiểu châm ngôn và ngụ ngôn;
Những lời của người khôn ngoan và câu đố của họ.
7 Kính sợ CHÚA là khởi đầu[a] sự hiểu biết;
Kẻ ngu dại khinh bỉ sự khôn ngoan và lời giáo huấn.
8 Hỡi con ta, hãy nghe lời giáo huấn của cha con
Và chớ bỏ lời dạy dỗ của mẹ con.
9 Vì ấy là vòng hoa xinh đẹp trên đầu con,
Dây chuyền trang sức trên cổ con.
10 Hỡi con ta, nếu kẻ tội lỗi quyến rũ con,
Chớ theo.
11 Nếu chúng nói: “Hãy đến cùng chúng ta,
Hãy mai phục để làm đổ máu;
Hãy rình rập để hại người vô tội cách vô cớ.
12 Như Âm Phủ, chúng ta hãy nuốt sống chúng nó,
Nuốt nguyên vẹn như những kẻ xuống huyệt sâu.
13 Chúng ta sẽ lấy hết đồ quý giá,
Và nhà chúng ta sẽ đầy của cướp.
14 Hãy rút thăm chia phần với chúng ta;
Chúng ta sẽ có một bao tiền chung.”
15 Hỡi con ta, đừng đi theo con đường của họ;
Chân con hãy tránh các lối chúng nó.
16 Vì chân chúng nó chạy theo điều ác;
Chúng nó vội vàng làm đổ máu.
17 Vì giăng lưới trước mắt cả bầy chim
Là điều vô ích thay;
18 Nhưng chúng nó mai phục để làm đổ máu chính mình;
Rình để hại chính mạng sống[b] mình.
19 Đó là con đường của tất cả những kẻ tham lợi phi nghĩa;
Sự cướp bóc sẽ tước đoạt mạng sống[c] của kẻ có nó.
Lời Kêu Gọi Của Sự Khôn Ngoan
20 Sự khôn ngoan kêu lớn trên đường phố;
Lên tiếng giữa quảng trường;
21 Sự khôn ngoan kêu gọi nơi phố chợ nhộn nhịp;
Diễn thuyết tại cổng dẫn vào thành phố.
22 Hỡi những kẻ dại dột, các ngươi yêu mến sự dại dột cho đến bao giờ?
Những kẻ nhạo báng vui thích trong việc nhạo báng
Và những kẻ ngu dại ghét sự hiểu biết cho đến khi nào?
23 Hãy trở lại khi ta quở trách;
Này ta sẽ đổ thần ta[d] trên các ngươi;
Sẽ cho các ngươi biết những lời ta.
24 Vì ta đã kêu gọi nhưng các ngươi từ chối;
Ta đã đưa tay ra nhưng không ai chú ý;
25 Vì các ngươi đã bỏ mọi lời khuyên của ta;
Không nhận sự quở trách của ta;
26 Nên ta sẽ chê cười khi các ngươi bị tai họa;
Ta sẽ chế nhạo khi sự kinh hoàng ập đến.
27 Sự kinh hoàng sẽ kéo đến như bão
Và tai họa như gió lốc;
Đau đớn và thống khổ ập đến trên các ngươi.
28 Bấy giờ chúng nó sẽ cầu khẩn ta nhưng ta không đáp lời;
Chúng nó sẽ cố gắng tìm kiếm ta nhưng không tìm được.
29 Vì chúng nó ghét sự hiểu biết;
Không chọn sự kính sợ CHÚA;
30 Không theo lời ta khuyên;
Khinh bỉ mọi điều quở trách của ta;
31 Cho nên chúng sẽ phải ăn nuốt hậu quả của đường lối chúng;
Và no nê với những mưu chước mình.
32 Vì sự lầm lạc giết kẻ ngây ngô;
Còn sự vô tâm của kẻ ngu dại hủy diệt chính chúng nó.
33 Nhưng ai nghe ta sẽ sống an toàn
Và an tâm không sợ tai họa.

Purpose and Theme
1 The proverbs(A) of Solomon(B) son of David, king of Israel:(C)
2 for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a](D)
knowledge and discretion(E) to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,(F)
and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,(G)
the sayings and riddles(H) of the wise.[b](I)
7 The fear of the Lord(J) is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools[c] despise wisdom(K) and instruction.(L)
Prologue: Exhortations to Embrace Wisdom
Warning Against the Invitation of Sinful Men
8 Listen, my son,(M) to your father’s(N) instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.(O)
9 They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.(P)
10 My son, if sinful men entice(Q) you,
do not give in(R) to them.(S)
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait(T) for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow(U) them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;(V)
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot(W)”—
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot(X) on their paths;(Y)
16 for their feet rush into evil,(Z)
they are swift to shed blood.(AA)
17 How useless to spread a net
where every bird can see it!
18 These men lie in wait(AB) for their own blood;
they ambush only themselves!(AC)
19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.(AD)
Wisdom’s Rebuke
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,(AE)
she raises her voice in the public square;
21 on top of the wall[d] she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
22 “How long will you who are simple(AF) love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate(AG) knowledge?
23 Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse(AH) to listen when I call(AI)
and no one pays attention(AJ) when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh(AK) when disaster(AL) strikes you;
I will mock(AM) when calamity overtakes you(AN)—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster(AO) sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;(AP)
they will look for me but will not find me,(AQ)
29 since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the Lord.(AR)
30 Since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,(AS)
31 they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.(AT)
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;(AU)
33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety(AV)
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”(AW)
