Proverbs 1:7-19
English Standard Version
7 (A)The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The Enticement of Sinners
8 (B)Hear, my son, your father's instruction,
and forsake not your mother's teaching,
9 for they are (C)a graceful garland for your head
and (D)pendants for your neck.
10 My son, if sinners (E)entice you,
do not consent.
11 If they say, “Come with us, (F)let us lie in wait for blood;
(G)let us ambush the innocent without reason;
12 like Sheol let us (H)swallow them alive,
and whole, like (I)those who go down to the pit;
13 we shall find all precious goods,
we shall fill our houses with plunder;
14 throw in your lot among us;
we will all have one purse”—
15 my son, (J)do not walk in the way with them;
(K)hold back your foot from their paths,
16 for (L)their feet run to evil,
and they make haste to shed blood.
17 (M)For in vain is a net spread
in the sight of any bird,
18 but these men (N)lie in wait for their own blood;
they (O)set an ambush for their own lives.
19 (P)Such are the ways of everyone who is (Q)greedy for unjust gain;
(R)it takes away the life of its possessors.
Proverbs 8:13-17
English Standard Version
13 (A)The fear of the Lord is (B)hatred of evil.
(C)Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and (D)perverted speech I hate.
14 I have (E)counsel and (F)sound wisdom;
I have insight; (G)I have strength.
15 By me (H)kings reign,
and rulers decree what is just;
16 by me princes rule,
and nobles, all who govern justly.[a]
17 (I)I love those who love me,
and (J)those who seek me diligently find me.

Proverbs 23:19-28
English Standard Version
19 Hear, my son, and (A)be wise,
and (B)direct your heart in the way.
20 Be not among (C)drunkards[a]
or among (D)gluttonous eaters of meat,
21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
and (E)slumber will clothe them with rags.
22 (F)Listen to your father who gave you life,
(G)and do not despise your mother when she is old.
23 (H)Buy truth, and do not sell it;
buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
24 (I)The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice;
he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.
25 (J)Let your father and mother be glad;
let (K)her who bore you rejoice.
26 My son, give me your heart,
and let your eyes observe[b] my ways.
27 For a prostitute is (L)a deep pit;
(M)an adulteress[c] is a narrow (N)well.
28 (O)She lies in wait like a robber
and increases the traitors among mankind.
