Proverbs 1:6-8

⁶by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables,
the words of the wise and their riddles.

⁷Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

⁸My child,^[a] listen when your father corrects you.
Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.

Proverbs 1:6-8

New International Version

⁶for understanding proverbs and parables,^(A)
the sayings and riddles^(B) of the wise.^[a]^(C)

⁷The fear of the Lord^(D) is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools^[b] despise wisdom^(E) and instruction.^(F)

⁸Listen, my son,^(G) to your father’s^(H) instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.^(I)
