26 夏 天 落 雪 ， 收 割 时 下 雨 ， 都 不 相 宜 ； 愚 昧 人 得 尊 荣 也 是 如 此 。
2 麻 雀 往 来 ， 燕 子 翻 飞 ； 这 样 ， 无 故 的 咒 诅 也 必 不 临 到 。
3 鞭 子 是 为 打 马 ， 辔 头 是 为 勒 驴 ； 刑 杖 是 为 打 愚 昧 人 的 背 。
4 不 要 照 愚 昧 人 的 愚 妄 话 回 答 他 ， 恐 怕 你 与 他 一 样 。
5 要 照 愚 昧 人 的 愚 妄 话 回 答 他 ， 免 得 他 自 以 为 有 智 慧 。
6 藉 愚 昧 人 手 寄 信 的 ， 是 砍 断 自 己 的 脚 ， 自 受 （ 原 文 是 ： 喝 ） 损 害 。
7 瘸 子 的 脚 空 存 无 用 ； 箴 言 在 愚 昧 人 的 口 中 也 是 如 此 。
8 将 尊 荣 给 愚 昧 人 的 ， 好 像 人 把 石 子 包 在 机 弦 里 。
9 箴 言 在 愚 昧 人 的 口 中 ， 好 像 荆 棘 刺 入 醉 汉 的 手 。
10 雇 愚 昧 人 的 ， 与 雇 过 路 人 的 ， 就 像 射 伤 众 人 的 弓 箭 手 。
11 愚 昧 人 行 愚 妄 事 ， 行 了 又 行 ， 就 如 狗 转 过 来 吃 他 所 吐 的 。
12 你 见 自 以 为 有 智 慧 的 人 麽 ？ 愚 昧 人 比 他 更 有 指 望 。
13 懒 惰 人 说 ： 道 上 有 猛 狮 ， 街 上 有 壮 狮 。
14 门 在 枢 纽 转 动 ， 懒 惰 人 在 床 上 也 是 如 此 。
15 懒 惰 人 放 手 在 盘 子 里 ， 就 是 向 口 撤 回 也 以 为 劳 乏 。
16 懒 惰 人 看 自 己 比 七 个 善 於 应 对 的 人 更 有 智 慧 。
17 过 路 被 事 激 动 ， 管 理 不 干 己 的 争 竞 ， 好 像 人 揪 住 狗 耳 。
18 人 欺 凌 邻 舍 ， 却 说 ： 我 岂 不 是 戏 耍 麽 ？ 他 就 像 疯 狂 的 人 抛 掷 火 把 、 利 箭 ， 与 杀 人 的 兵 器 （ 原 文 是 死 亡 ） 。

22 传 舌 人 的 言 语 ， 如 同 美 食 ， 深 入 人 的 心 腹 。
23 火 热 的 嘴 ， 奸 恶 的 心 ， 好 像 银 渣 包 的 瓦 器 。
24 怨 恨 人 的 ， 用 嘴 粉 饰 ， 心 里 却 藏 着 诡 诈 ；
25 他 用 甜 言 蜜 语 ， 你 不 可 信 他 ， 因 为 他 心 中 有 七 样 可 憎 恶 的 。
26 他 虽 用 诡 诈 遮 掩 自 己 的 怨 恨 ， 他 的 邪 恶 必 在 会 中 显 露 。

Folly of Fools
26 Like snow in summer or rain at harvest,
so honor is not fitting for a fool.
2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a flying swallow,
so an undeserved curse does not land.
3 A whip for a horse, a bridle for a donkey,
and a rod for the back of fools.
4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
else you also will be like him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
else he will be wise in his own eyes.
6 Like cutting off one’s feet or drinking violence
is sending a message by a fool’s hand.
7 Like a lame man’s legs that hang limp,
so is a proverb in a fool’s mouth.
8 Like tying a stone into a sling,
so is giving honor to a fool.
9 Like a thorn bush in a drunkard’s hand
is a proverb in a fool’s mouth.
10 Like an archer who wounds at random
is one who hires a fool or any passer-by.
11 Like a dog that returns to its vomit,
so a fool repeats his folly.[a]
12 Do you see one wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than him.
Folly of Slackers
13 A slacker says,
“There’s a lion on the road!
A lion is in the streets!”
14 As a door turns on its hinges
so a slacker turns on his bed.
15 The slacker plunges his hand in the dish—
he is too tired to bring it back to his mouth.
16 A slacker is wiser in his own eyes
than seven people who answer sensibly.
Folly of Lashon Ha-Ra
17 Like one who takes a dog by the ears
is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18 Like a madman shooting firebrands and deadly arrows
19 so is one who deceives his friend, and says, “I was only joking.”
20 Without wood a fire goes out;
without gossip quarrels cease.
21 As coals are to embers and wood to fire,
so is a contentious person to kindling strife.
22 A gossip’s words are like tasty morsels—
they slide down into the innermost parts of the body.
23 Like silver glaze overlaying earthenware
are fervent[b] lips with an evil heart.
24 One who hates, disguises it with his lips,
but he stores up deceit within him.
25 When he speaks favorably, do not believe him,
for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 Though his hatred may be concealed
by deceit, his evil will be exposed before the assembly.
27 Whoever digs a pit will fall in it,
and whoever rolls a stone—it will come back upon him.
28 A lying tongue hates those crushed by it,
and a flattering mouth causes ruin.

26 As sheleg (snow) in kayitz (summer), and as matar (rain) at katzir (harvest), so kavod is not fitting for a kesil (fool).
2 As the tzippor in its fluttering, as the swallow in its flying, so the kelelah (curse) without cause shall not alight.
3 A shot (whip) for the sus, a bridle for the chamor, and a shevet for the back of kesilim.
4 Answer not a kesil (fool) according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Answer a kesil (fool) according to his folly, lest he be chacham in his own eyes.
6 He that sendeth a message by the yad of a kesil (fool) cutteth off the raglayim, and drinketh chamas.
7 The legs of the pisei’ach (lame man) hang limp; so is a mashal in the peh (mouth) of kesilim.
8 As he that bindeth an even (stone) in a sling, so is he that giveth kavod to a kesil (fool).
9 As a thornbush goeth up into the yad of a shikkor, so is a mashal in the peh (mouth) of kesilim.
10 Like an archer wounding all, so is he that hireth the kesil (fool), or hireth the passerby.
11 As a kelev returneth to his vomit, so a kesil (fool) returneth to his folly.
12 Seest thou an ish chacham in his own eyes? There is more tikvah (hope) for a kesil (fool) than for him.
13 The atzel (sluggard, lazy one) saith, There is a lion in the derech; an ari is in the rechovot.
14 As the delet (door) turneth upon its hinges, so doth the atzel (sluggard, lazy one) upon his mittah (bed).
15 The atzel (sluggard, lazy one) hideth his yad in his dish; it’s too tiring to bring it back to his peh (mouth) again.
16 The atzel (sluggard, lazy one) is chacham in his own eyes, more than seven that give an excellent answer.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth in a quarrel that doth not belong to him, is like one that taketh a kelev by the oznayim.
18 As a mad man who shooteth firebrands, khitzim (arrows), and mavet,
19 So is the ish that deceiveth his re’a, and saith, Am I not just having a laugh?
20 Where no wood is, there the eish goeth out; so where there is no nirgan (gossip, slanderer, talebearer), the strife dieth down.
21 As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to eish; so is a contentious ish to kindle strife.
22 The devarim of a nirgan (gossip, slanderer, talebearer) are like tasty morsels, and they go down into the innermost chambers of the beten.
23 Fervent sfatayim (lips) and a lev rah are like earthenware covered with silver dross.
24 He that hateth disguises it with his sfatayim (lips), and within harboreth mirmah (deceit);
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are sheva to’avot in his lev.
26 Whose hatred is covered by guile, yet his wickedness shall be exposed before the whole kahal.
27 He who diggeth a shachat (pit) shall fall therein, and he that rolleth an even (stone), it will roll back upon him.
28 A lashon sheker hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering peh (mouth) worketh ruin.
