²⁶Like vinegar to the teeth and like smoke to the eyes,
So is the ^(A)sluggard to those who send him.

⁴The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is enriched.

⁴The ^(A)sluggard does not plow from winter on,
So he ^[a]begs during the harvest and has nothing.

¹⁶The sluggard is ^(A)wiser in his own eyes
Than seven men who can respond with a discreet answer.
