¹⁶ These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to ^[a]Him:
^17 (A)A^[b] proud look,
^(B)A lying tongue,
^(C)Hands that shed innocent blood,
^18 (D)A heart that devises wicked plans,
^(E)Feet that are swift in running to evil,
^19 (F)A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who ^(G)sows discord among brethren.

^9 (A)He who covers a transgression seeks love,
But ^(B)he who repeats a matter separates friends.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like releasing water;
Therefore ^(A)stop contention before a quarrel starts.

¹⁹ He who loves transgression loves strife,
And ^(A)he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.

¹⁹ A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city,
And contentions are like the bars of a castle.

¹¹ A fool vents all his ^(A)feelings,^[a]
But a wise man holds them back.

^22 (A)An angry man stirs up strife,
And a furious man abounds in transgression.

³² If you have been foolish in exalting yourself,
Or if you have devised evil, ^(A)put your hand on your mouth.
³³ For as the churning of milk produces butter,
And wringing the nose produces blood,
So the forcing of wrath produces strife.
