No one makes claims justly;
no one pleads honestly.
They trust in empty and worthless words;
they conceive trouble and give birth to iniquity.(A)
They hatch viper’s eggs
and weave spider’s webs.
Whoever eats their eggs will die;
crack one open, and a viper is hatched.
Their webs cannot become clothing,
and they cannot cover themselves with their works.
Their works are sinful works,
and violent acts are in their hands.
Their feet run after evil,(B)
and they rush to shed innocent blood.(C)
Their thoughts are sinful thoughts;(D)
ruin and wretchedness are in their paths.

They have not known the path of peace,(E)
and there is no justice in their ways.
They have made their roads crooked;

They will be driven away and fall down there,
for I will bring disaster on them,
the year of their punishment.(G)
This is the Lord’s declaration.
13 Among the prophets of Samaria

They prophesied by Baal
and led my people Israel astray.(H)

14 Among the prophets of Jerusalem also
I saw a horrible thing:(I)
They commit adultery and walk in lies.
They strengthen the hands of evildoers,
and none turns his back on evil.
They are all like Sodom(J) to me;
Jerusalem’s residents are like Gomorrah.
