²¹ My son, let them not depart from thine eyes;
Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
²² So shall they be life unto thy soul,
And grace to thy neck.
²³ Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely,
And ^[a]thy foot shall not stumble.
²⁴ When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid:
Yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
²⁵ Be not afraid of sudden fear,
Neither of the ^[b]desolation of the wicked, when it cometh:
²⁶ For Jehovah will be thy confidence,
And will keep thy foot from being taken.

⁶ The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them;
But the treacherous shall be taken in their own iniquity.

⁸ The righteous is delivered out of trouble;
And the wicked cometh in his stead.

¹⁵ He that is surety for a stranger ^[a]shall smart for it;
But he that hateth ^[b]suretyship is secure.

⁶ The words of the wicked ^[a]are of lying in wait for blood;
But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
^7 [b]The wicked are overthrown, and are not;
But the house of the righteous shall stand.

¹³ In the transgression of the lips is ^[a]a snare to the evil man;
But the righteous shall come out of trouble.

²¹ There shall no mischief happen to the righteous;
But the wicked shall be filled with evil.

³ He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life;
But he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

¹⁴ The ^[a]law of the wise is a fountain of life,
That one may depart from the snares of death.

²⁴ To the wise the way of life goeth upward,
That he may depart from Sheol beneath.
