²When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

²When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;^(A)
when the wicked rule,^(B) the people groan.^(C)

¹⁰For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

¹⁰For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching^(A) its decrees and laws in Israel.

¹⁵It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

¹⁵When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous
but terror to evildoers.^(A)
