Proverbs 20:27-30

New International Version

²⁷The human spirit is^[a] the lamp of the Lord^(A)
that sheds light on one’s inmost being.^(B)

²⁸Love and faithfulness keep a king safe;
through love^(C) his throne is made secure.^(D)

²⁹The glory of young men is their strength,
gray hair the splendor of the old.^(E)

³⁰Blows and wounds scrub^(F) away evil,
and beatings^(G) purge the inmost being.

²⁷The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

²⁸Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

²⁹The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

³⁰The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
