²⁶It isn’t good to fine those who aren’t guilty.
So it certainly isn’t good to whip officials just because they are honest.

²⁶If imposing a fine on the innocent is not good,^(A)
surely to flog honest officials is not right.

⁵It isn’t good to favor those who do wrong.
That would keep justice from those who aren’t guilty.

⁵It is not good to be partial to the wicked^(A)
and so deprive the innocent of justice.^(B)

⁸The path of those who are guilty is crooked.
But the conduct of those who are not guilty is honest.

⁸The way of the guilty is devious,^(A)
but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
