^11 [a](A)Sheol and ^[b]Abaddon lie open before the Lord,
How much more the ^(B)hearts of ^[c]mankind!

² All the ways of a person are clean in his own sight,
But the ^(A)Lord examines the ^[a]motives.

³ The ^(A)refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
But ^(B)the Lord tests hearts.

¹¹ It is by his deeds that a boy ^[a](A)distinguishes himself,
If his conduct is pure and right.

²⁷ The ^[a](A)spirit of a person is the lamp of the Lord,
Searching all the ^[b]innermost parts of his being.

^2 (A)Every person’s way is right in his own eyes,
But the Lord ^(B)examines the hearts.

¹⁹ As in water a face reflects the face,
So the heart of a person reflects the person.
