¹²One who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom,
but a man of understanding holds his peace.

¹²It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor;
a sensible person keeps quiet.

¹²Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense,^(A)
but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.^(B)

²⁸Don’t be a witness against your neighbor without cause.
Don’t deceive with your lips.

²⁸Don’t testify against your neighbors without cause;
don’t lie about them.

²⁸Do not testify against your neighbor without cause^(A)—
would you use your lips to mislead?
