La Sabiduría y la mujer insensata
9 La sabiduría edificó su casa,
Labró sus siete columnas.
2 Mató sus víctimas, mezcló su vino,
Y puso su mesa.
3 Envió sus criadas;
Sobre lo más alto de la ciudad clamó.
4 Dice a cualquier simple: Ven acá.
A los faltos de cordura dice:
5 Venid, comed mi pan,
Y bebed del vino que yo he mezclado.
6 Dejad las simplezas, y vivid,
Y andad por el camino de la inteligencia.
7 El que corrige al escarnecedor, se acarrea afrenta;
El que reprende al impío, se atrae mancha.
8 No reprendas al escarnecedor, para que no te aborrezca;
Corrige al sabio, y te amará.
9 Da al sabio, y será más sabio;
Enseña al justo, y aumentará su saber.
10 El temor de Jehová es el principio de la sabiduría,(A)
Y el conocimiento del Santísimo es la inteligencia.
11 Porque por mí se aumentarán tus días,
Y años de vida se te añadirán.
12 Si fueres sabio, para ti lo serás;
Y si fueres escarnecedor, pagarás tú solo.
13 La mujer insensata es alborotadora;
Es simple e ignorante.
14 Se sienta en una silla a la puerta de su casa,
En los lugares altos de la ciudad,
15 Para llamar a los que pasan por el camino,
Que van por sus caminos derechos.
16 Dice a cualquier simple: Ven acá.
A los faltos de cordura dijo:
17 Las aguas hurtadas son dulces,
Y el pan comido en oculto es sabroso.
18 Y no saben que allí están los muertos;
Que sus convidados están en lo profundo del Seol.

La sabiduría y la ignorancia
9 La sabiduría hizo una casa
y le puso siete columnas labradas.
2 Hizo además una fiesta,
en la que ofreció el mejor vino.
Una vez puesta la mesa,
3 mandó mensajeras
a la parte alta de la ciudad,
para que desde allí gritaran:
4 «Jovencitos sin experiencia,
ya que les falta entendimiento,
vengan conmigo.
5 Vengan a gozar de mi banquete;
beban del vino que he preparado.
6 Si realmente quieren vivir,
déjense de tonterías
y actúen con inteligencia.
7 »Si corriges a los burlones,
sólo ganarás que te insulten;
si reprendes a los malvados,
sólo te ganarás su desprecio.
8 No reprendas a los burlones,
o acabarán por odiarte;
mejor reprende a los sabios,
y acabarán por amarte.
9 Educa al sabio,
y aumentará su sabiduría;
enséñale algo al justo,
y aumentará su saber.
10 »Todo el que quiera ser sabio
que comience por obedecer a Dios;
conocer al Dios santo
es dar muestras de inteligencia.
11 Yo, la sabiduría,
te daré muchos años de vida.
12 Si eres sabio,
tú eres quien sale ganando;
pero si eres malcriado,
sufrirás las consecuencias».
13 La ignorancia es escandalosa,
tonta y sinvergüenza.
14 Cuando está en su casa,
se sienta a la entrada misma;
cuando está en la ciudad,
se sienta donde todos la vean,
15 y llama a los distraídos
que pasan por el camino:
16 «Jovencitos inexpertos,
faltos de entendimiento,
¡vengan conmigo!
17 ¡No hay nada más sabroso
que beber agua robada!
¡No hay pan que sepa tan dulce
como el que se come a escondidas!»
18 Pero estos tontos no saben
que esa casa es un cementerio;
¡no saben que sus invitados
ahora están en el fondo de la tumba!

“Woman Wisdom’s” invitation
9 Wisdom built her house;
she has carved out her seven pillars.
2 She slaughtered her animals,
mixed her wine,
and set her table.
3 She sends out her female servants; she issues an invitation
from the top of the city heights:
4 “Whoever is naive turn aside here,”
she says to those who lack sense.
5 “Come, eat my food,
and drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Abandon your simplistic ways and live;
walk in the way of understanding.”
Wise advice
7 Whoever instructs the cynic gets insulted;
whoever corrects the wicked gets hurt.
8 Don’t correct the impudent, or they will hate you;
correct the wise, and they will love you.
9 Teach the wise, and they will become wiser;
inform the righteous, and their learning will increase.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord;
the knowledge of the holy one is understanding.
11 Through me your days will be many;
years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, it is to your benefit;
if you are cynical, you will bear it all alone.
“Woman Folly’s” invitation
13 Woman Folly is noisy;
she’s stupid and doesn’t even know it.
14 She sits at the doorway of her house,
on a seat at the city heights.
15 She invites those who pass by on the path,
those going straight on their way.
16 “Whoever is naive, come in here,”
she says to those who lack sense.
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But they don’t know that the dead are there;
her guests are in the depths of the grave.[a]

2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
