Invitación de la sabiduría y de la necedad
9 La sabiduría ha construido su casa con siete columnas. 2 Ha preparado un banquete, mezcló los vinos y puso la mesa. 3 Ha enviado a sus criadas a lo más alto de la ciudad para que griten: 4 ¡Vengan conmigo los inexpertos! —les dice a los faltos de juicio—. 5 Vengan a mi banquete y beban los vinos que he mezclado. 6 Abandonen su necedad y vivirán; aprendan a ser sabios!
7 Si corriges al burlón sólo conseguirás que te insulte; si corriges al malvado sólo conseguirás que te lastime. 8 No corrijas al burlón pues terminará odiándote; corrige al sabio, y te amará. 9 Enseña al sabio, y será más sabio; enseña al justo, y aprenderá más. 10 Lo primero que hay que hacer para adquirir sabiduría es honrar al Señor; conocer al Santo es tener inteligencia. 11 La sabiduría aumentará tus días y añadirá años a tu vida. 12 Si eres sabio, tu recompensa será la sabiduría; si eres desvergonzado, tú serás el único que sufra.
13 La mujer necia es escandalosa; es ignorante y ni siquiera lo sabe. 14 Se sienta a la puerta de su casa, en lo más alto de la ciudad, 15 llama a los que pasan por allí, a los que andan por el buen camino. 16 ¡Vengan conmigo los inexpertos! —les dice a los faltos de juicio—. 17 El agua robada es más refrescante; y el pan que se come a escondidas sabe mejor! 18 Pero ellos no se dan cuenta que allí está la muerte, y que sus invitados ahora están en el fondo de la fosa.

The Way of Wisdom
9 Wisdom has (A)built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 (B)She has slaughtered her meat,
(C)She has mixed her wine,
She has also [a]furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “Whoever(D) is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5 “Come,(E) eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.
7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8 (F)Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
(G)Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, (H)and he will increase in learning.
10 “The(I) fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 (J)For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
12 (K)If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”

13 (L)A foolish woman is [b]clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing.
14 For she sits at the door of her house,
On a seat (M)by the highest places of the city,
15 To call to those who pass by,
Who go straight on their way:
16 “Whoever(N) is [c]simple, let him turn in here”;
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17 “Stolen(O) water is sweet,
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that (P)the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of [d]hell.

L'invito della saggezza e l'invito della follia
9 (A)La saggezza ha fabbricato la sua
casa,
ha lavorato le sue colonne, in numero
di sette;
2 ha ammazzato i suoi animali,
ha preparato il suo vino,
e ha anche apparecchiato la sua
mensa.
3 Ha mandato fuori le sue ancelle;
dall'alto dei luoghi elevati della città
essa chiama:
4 «Chi è sciocco venga qua!»
A quelli che sono privi di senno dice:
5 «Venite, mangiate il mio pane
e bevete il vino che ho preparato!»
6 Lasciate, sciocchi, la stoltezza
e vivrete;
camminate per la via dell'intelligenza!
7 Chi corregge il beffardo si attira
insulti,
chi riprende l'empio riceve affronto.
8 Non riprendere il beffardo, per
evitare che ti odi;
riprendi il saggio, e ti amerà.
9 Istruisci il saggio, e diventerà piú
saggio che mai;
insegna al giusto e accrescerà il suo
sapere.
10 Il principio della saggezza è
il timore del Signore,
e conoscere il Santo è l'intelligenza.
11 Per mio mezzo infatti ti saranno
moltiplicati i giorni,
ti saranno aumentati anni di vita.
12 Se sei saggio, sei saggio per te
stesso;
se sei beffardo, tu solo ne porterai
la pena.
13 (B)La follia è una donna turbolenta,
sciocca, che non sa nulla.
14 Siede alla porta di casa,
sopra una sedia, nei luoghi elevati della città,
15 per chiamare quelli che passano
per la via,
che vanno diritti per la loro strada,
dicendo:
16 «Chi è sciocco venga qua!»
E a chi è privo di senno dice:
17 «Le acque rubate sono dolci,
il pane mangiato di nascosto è
delizioso».
18 Ma egli non sa che là sono
i defunti,
che i suoi convitati giacciono in fondo
al *soggiorno dei morti.
