Artimañas de la mujer ajena
7 Hijo mío, obedece mis palabras,
y guarda como un tesoro mis mandamientos.
2 Obedece mis mandamientos y enseñanzas;
cuídalos como las niñas de tus ojos, y vivirás.
3 Átalos alrededor de tus dedos;
anótalos en la pizarra de tu corazón.
4 Dile a la sabiduría: «¡Hermana mía!»
Declárate pariente de la inteligencia.
5 Ellas te protegerán de la mujer ajena,
de esa extraña de melosas palabras.
6 Un día estaba yo en la ventana de mi casa,
y miraba a través de la celosía.
7 Observaba yo a los jóvenes incautos,
y me llamó la atención uno de ellos,
claramente falto de entendimiento,
8 que cruzó la calle, dobló la esquina,
y se dirigió a la casa de esa mujer.
9 Era tarde, y comenzaba a oscurecer;
las sombras de la noche comenzaban a caer.
10 De pronto, esa mujer salió a su encuentro,
vestida como ramera y con claras intenciones:
11 Era provocativa y desafiante,
de esas que no pueden poner un pie en su casa.
12 Unas veces en la calle, otras veces en las plazas,
y en constante acecho en las esquinas.
13 Se prendió de él, le dio un beso,
y descaradamente le propuso:
14 «Yo había prometido sacrificios de paz,
y hoy he cumplido con mis votos.
15 ¡Por eso he salido a tu encuentro!
¡Ansiaba verte, y he dado contigo!
16 Mi lecho lo he cubierto con finas colchas,
colchas recamadas con hilo egipcio.
17 Mi alcoba la he perfumado
Con mirra, áloes y canela.
18 ¡Ven, embriaguémonos de amores!
¡Gocemos del amor hasta el amanecer!
19 Mi marido no está en casa,
pues salió para hacer un largo viaje.
20 Se llevó la bolsa de dinero,
y no volverá hasta el día señalado.»
21 La mujer lo venció con sus muchas lisonjas;
lo persuadió con sus labios zalameros,
22 y el joven se fue enseguida tras ella,
como el buey que va al degolladero;
como el necio que preso avanza al castigo,
23 hasta que una flecha le parte el corazón;
como el ave que vuela presurosa hacia la red,
sin saber que eso le costará la vida.
24 Hijos, por favor, ¡escúchenme!
¡Presten atención a mis declaraciones!
25 No inclines tu corazón hacia sus caminos;
no pierdas el rumbo por sus atajos.
26 Por su culpa, muchos han caído heridos;
aun los más fuertes han muerto por causa de ella.
27 Su casa va camino al sepulcro,
y desciende a las mansiones de la muerte.

7 Hijo mío, guarda mis palabras
Y atesora mis mandamientos contigo(A).
2 Guarda mis mandamientos y vivirás(B),
Y mi enseñanza[a] como la niña de tus ojos(C).
3 Átalos a tus dedos(D),
Escríbelos en la tabla de tu corazón(E).
4 Di a la sabiduría: «Tú eres mi hermana»,
Y llama a la inteligencia tu mejor amiga,
5 Para que te guarden de la mujer extraña,
De la desconocida[b] que lisonjea[c] con sus palabras.
6 ¶Porque desde la ventana de mi casa
Miraba por la celosía(F),
7 Y vi entre los simples(G),
Distinguí entre los muchachos[d]
A un joven falto de juicio[e](H),
8 Pasando por la calle, cerca de su[f] esquina(I);
Iba[g] camino de su[h] casa(J),
9 Al atardecer, al anochecer[i](K),
En medio[j] de la noche y la oscuridad.
10 Entonces una mujer le sale al encuentro,
Vestida como ramera y astuta de corazón(L).
11 Es alborotadora(M) y rebelde,
Sus pies no permanecen en casa(N);
12 Está ya en las calles, ya en las plazas(O),
Y acecha(P) por todas las esquinas.
13 Así que ella lo agarra y lo besa,
Y descarada[k](Q) le dice:
14 «Tenía que ofrecer ofrendas de paz[l](R),
Y hoy he cumplido mis votos(S);
15 Por eso he salido a encontrarte,
Buscando tu rostro con ansiedad, y te he hallado.
16 -»He tendido mi lecho con colchas(T),
Con linos de Egipto en colores(U).
17 -»He rociado mi cama
Con mirra, áloes(V) y canela(W).
18 -»Ven, embriaguémonos de amor hasta la mañana,
Deleitémonos con caricias.
19 -»Porque mi[m] marido no está en casa,
Se ha ido a un largo viaje;
20 Se ha llevado en la mano la bolsa del dinero(X),
Volverá a casa para la luna llena».
21 Con sus palabras persuasivas lo atrae,
Lo seduce con sus labios lisonjeros[n](Y).
22 Al instante la sigue
Como va el buey al matadero,
O como uno en grillos al castigo de un necio[o],
23 Hasta que una flecha le traspasa el hígado;
Como el ave que se precipita en la trampa(Z),
Y no sabe que esto le costará la vida.
24 ¶Ahora pues, hijos míos, escúchenme,
Y presten atención a las palabras de mi boca(AA).
25 No se desvíe tu corazón hacia sus caminos,
No te extravíes en sus sendas(AB).
26 Porque muchas son las víctimas[p] derribadas por ella,
Y numerosos los que ha matado(AC).
27 Su casa es el camino al Seol,
Que desciende a las cámaras de la muerte(AD).

Warning Against the Adulterous Woman
7 My son,(A) keep my words
and store up my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and you will live;(B)
guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.(C)
4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and to insight, “You are my relative.”
5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words.(D)
6 At the window of my house
I looked down through the lattice.
7 I saw among the simple,
I noticed among the young men,
a youth who had no sense.(E)
8 He was going down the street near her corner,
walking along in the direction of her house
9 at twilight,(F) as the day was fading,
as the dark of night set in.
10 Then out came a woman to meet him,
dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
11 (She is unruly(G) and defiant,
her feet never stay at home;
12 now in the street, now in the squares,
at every corner she lurks.)(H)
13 She took hold of him(I) and kissed him
and with a brazen face she said:(J)
14 “Today I fulfilled my vows,
and I have food from my fellowship offering(K) at home.
15 So I came out to meet you;
I looked for you and have found you!
16 I have covered my bed
with colored linens from Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed(L)
with myrrh,(M) aloes and cinnamon.
18 Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning;
let’s enjoy ourselves with love!(N)
19 My husband is not at home;
he has gone on a long journey.
20 He took his purse filled with money
and will not be home till full moon.”
21 With persuasive words she led him astray;
she seduced him with her smooth talk.(O)
22 All at once he followed her
like an ox going to the slaughter,
like a deer[a] stepping into a noose[b](P)
23 till an arrow pierces(Q) his liver,
like a bird darting into a snare,
little knowing it will cost him his life.(R)

3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
