Advertencia contra la impureza
5 Hijo mío, atiende a mi sabiduría;
inclina tu oído a mi inteligencia.
2 Así pondrás en práctica mis consejos
y tus labios resguardarán el conocimiento.
3 Los labios de la mujer ajena destilan miel;
su paladar es más suave que el aceite,
4 pero termina siendo amargo como el ajenjo,
y tajante como una espada de dos filos.
5 Sus pies descienden a la muerte;
sus pasos se dirigen al sepulcro.
6 No tomes en cuenta sus caminos inestables,
porque no conocerás el camino de la vida.
7 Hijos, escúchenme bien ahora:
No se aparten de las razones de mi boca.
8 Aleja a esa mujer de tu camino.
No te acerques a la puerta de su casa.
9 Así no entregarás tu vida y tu honor
a gente extraña y cruel.
10 Así gente extraña no se saciará con tu fuerza,
ni se quedarán tus trabajos en casa ajena.
11 Así no tendrás que llorar al final,
cuando tu carne y tu cuerpo se consuman,
12 ni dirás: «¡Cómo pude rechazar los consejos!
¡Cómo pudo mi corazón despreciar la reprensión!
13 ¡No oí la voz de los que me instruían,
ni presté oído a los que me enseñaban!
14 ¡Poco me faltó para estar del todo mal
entre la comunidad y la congregación!»
15 Bebe el agua de tu propio pozo,
el raudal que mana de tu propia cisterna.
16 ¿Por qué derramar tus fuentes por las calles,
y tus corrientes de aguas por las plazas?
17 Esas aguas son para ti solo,
no para compartirlas con gente extraña.
18 ¡Bendito sea tu manantial!
¡Alégrate con la mujer de tu juventud,
19 con esa cervatilla amada y graciosa!
¡Sáciate de sus caricias en todo tiempo!
¡Recréate siempre con su amor!
20 Hijo mío,
¿Por qué perder la cabeza por la mujer ajena?
¿Por qué arrojarte a los brazos de una extraña?
21 Los caminos del hombre están ante el Señor,
y él pone a consideración todas sus veredas.
22 Al impío lo atrapa su propia maldad,
lo atan las cuerdas de su pecado.
23 El malvado muere por falta de corrección,
y pierde el rumbo por su inmensa locura.

Warning Against Adultery
5 (A)My son, be attentive to my wisdom;
(B)incline your ear to my understanding,
2 that you may keep (C)discretion,
and your lips may (D)guard knowledge.
3 For the lips of (E)a forbidden[a] woman drip honey,
and her speech[b] is (F)smoother than oil,
4 but in the end she is (G)bitter as (H)wormwood,
(I)sharp as (J)a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet (K)go down to death;
her steps follow the path to[c] Sheol;
6 she (L)does not ponder the path of life;
her ways wander, and she does not know it.
7 And (M)now, O sons, listen to me,
and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Keep your way far from her,
and do not go near the door of her house,
9 lest you give your honor to others
and your years to the merciless,
10 lest strangers take their fill of your strength,
and your (N)labors go to the house of a foreigner,
11 and at the end of your life you (O)groan,
when your flesh and body are consumed,
12 and you say, (P)“How I hated discipline,
and my heart (Q)despised reproof!
13 I did not listen to the voice of my teachers
or incline my ear to my instructors.
14 (R)I am at the brink of utter ruin
in the assembled congregation.”
15 Drink (S)water from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
16 Should your (T)springs be scattered abroad,
streams of water (U)in the streets?
17 (V)Let them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
18 Let your (W)fountain be blessed,
and (X)rejoice in (Y)the wife of your youth,
19 a lovely (Z)deer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts (AA)fill you at all times with delight;
be intoxicated[d] always in her love.
20 Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with (AB)a forbidden woman
and embrace the bosom of (AC)an adulteress?[e]
21 For (AD)a man's ways are (AE)before the eyes of the Lord,
and he (AF)ponders[f] all his paths.
22 The (AG)iniquities of the wicked (AH)ensnare him,
and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.
23 (AI)He dies for lack of discipline,
and because of his great folly he is (AJ)led astray.

Her ways are unstable;
You do not know them.
7 Therefore hear me now, my children,
And do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove your way far from her,

And your years to the cruel one;
10 Lest aliens be filled with your [f]wealth,
And your labors go to the house of a foreigner;
11 And you mourn at last,
When your flesh and your body are consumed,

And my heart despised correction!
13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers,
Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!
14 I was on the verge of total ruin,
In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”

17 Let them be only your own,
And not for strangers with you.

22 (I)His own iniquities entrap the wicked man,
And he is caught in the cords of his sin.

And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
