30 Palabras de Agur, hijo de Jaqué: el oráculo[a].
Declaración del hombre a Itiel, a Itiel y a Ucal.
2 Ciertamente soy el más torpe(A) de los hombres,
y no tengo inteligencia humana.
3 Y no he aprendido sabiduría,
ni tengo conocimiento del Santo(B).
4 ¿Quién subió al cielo y descendió(C)?
¿Quién recogió los vientos(D) en sus puños?
¿Quién envolvió las aguas en su[b] manto(E)?
¿Quién estableció todos los confines de la tierra(F)?
¿Cuál es su nombre(G) o el nombre de su hijo?
Ciertamente tú lo sabes.
5 Probada es toda palabra de Dios(H);
Él es escudo para los que en Él se refugian(I).
6 No añadas a sus palabras(J),
no sea que Él te reprenda y seas hallado mentiroso.
7 Dos cosas te he pedido,
no me las niegues antes que muera:
8 Aleja de mí la mentira y las palabras engañosas,
no me des pobreza ni riqueza;
dame a comer mi porción de pan(K),
9 no sea que me sacie(L) y te niegue, y diga:
¿Quién es el Señor(M)?,
o que sea menesteroso y robe(N),
y profane el nombre de mi Dios(O).
11 Hay gente[d] que maldice a su padre,
y no bendice a su madre(Q);
12 gente que se tiene por pura[e](R),
pero no está limpia de su inmundicia;
13 gente de ojos altivos(S),
cuyos[f] párpados se alzan en arrogancia;
14 gente cuyos dientes son espadas(T),
y sus muelas(U) cuchillos,
para devorar a los pobres de la tierra(V),
y a los menesterosos de entre los hombres.
15 La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas, que dicen: ¡Dame! ¡Dame!
Hay tres cosas que no se saciarán,
y una cuarta que no dirá: ¡Basta!
16 El Seol[g](W), la matriz estéril(X),
la tierra que jamás se sacia de agua,
y el fuego que nunca dice: ¡Basta!
17 Al ojo que se mofa del padre(Y),
y escarnece[h] a la madre(Z),
lo sacarán los cuervos del valle,
y lo comerán los aguiluchos(AA).
18 Hay tres cosas que son incomprensibles para mí,
y una cuarta que no entiendo:
19 el camino del águila en el cielo(AB),
el camino de la serpiente sobre la roca,
el camino del barco en medio del mar,
y el camino del hombre en la doncella.
20 Así es el camino de la mujer adúltera(AC):
come, se limpia la boca,
y dice: No he hecho nada malo.
21 Por tres cosas tiembla la tierra,
y por una cuarta no se puede sostener:
22 por el esclavo cuando llega a ser rey(AD),
por el necio cuando se sacia de pan,
23 por la mujer odiada cuando se casa,
y por la sierva cuando suplanta a su señora.
24 Cuatro cosas son pequeñas en la tierra,
pero son sumamente sabias:
25 las hormigas(AE), pueblo sin fuerza,
que preparan su alimento en el verano;
26 los tejones(AF), pueblo sin poder,
que hacen su casa en la peña;
27 las langostas, que no tienen rey,
pero todas salen en escuadrones(AG);
28 y el lagarto, que se puede agarrar con las manos,
pero está en los palacios de los reyes.
29 Hay tres cosas majestuosas en su marcha,
y una cuarta de elegante caminar:
30 el león, poderoso entre las fieras(AH),
que no retrocede ante ninguna(AI);
31 el gallo, que se pasea erguido[i], asimismo el macho cabrío,
y el rey cuando tiene el ejército con él.
32 Si has sido necio en ensalzarte,
o si has tramado el mal, pon la mano sobre tu boca(AJ);
33 porque batiendo la leche se saca[j] mantequilla,
y apretando la nariz sale sangre,
y forzando[k] la ira se produce[l] contienda(AK).

The Words of Agur
30 The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle.[a]
The man declares, I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God, and worn out.[b]
2 Surely I am too (A)stupid to be a man.
I have not the understanding of a man.
3 I have not learned wisdom,
nor have I knowledge of (B)the Holy One.
4 Who has (C)ascended to heaven and come down?
Who has (D)gathered the wind in his fists?
Who has (E)wrapped up the waters in a garment?
Who has established all (F)the ends of the earth?
(G)What is his name, and what is his son's name?
Surely you know!
5 (H)Every word of God proves true;
he is (I)a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 (J)Do not add to his words,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.
7 Two things I ask of you;
deny them not to me (K)before I die:
8 Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with the food that is (L)needful for me,
9 lest I be (M)full and (N)deny you
and say, (O)“Who is the Lord?”
or lest I be poor and steal
(P)and profane the name of my God.
11 There are those[c] who (S)curse their fathers
and do not bless their mothers.
12 There are those who are (T)clean in their own eyes
but are not washed of their filth.
13 There are those—how (U)lofty are their eyes,
how high their eyelids lift!
14 There are those whose teeth are (V)swords,
whose (W)fangs are knives,
to (X)devour the poor from off the earth,
the needy from among mankind.
15 The leech has two daughters:
Give and Give.[d]
(Y)Three things are never satisfied;
(Z)four never say, “Enough”:
16 (AA)Sheol, (AB)the barren womb,
the land never satisfied with water,
and the fire that never says, “Enough.”
17 The eye that (AC)mocks a father
and (AD)scorns to obey a mother
will (AE)be picked out by (AF)the ravens of the valley
and eaten by the vultures.
18 (AG)Three things are (AH)too wonderful for me;
(AI)four I do not understand:
19 the way of an eagle in the sky,
the way of a serpent on a rock,
the way of a ship on the high seas,
and the way of a man with a virgin.
20 This is the way of an adulteress:
she eats and wipes her mouth
and says, “I have done no wrong.”
21 Under (AJ)three things (AK)the earth trembles;
under (AL)four it cannot bear up:
22 (AM)a slave when he becomes king,
and a fool when he is (AN)filled with food;
23 (AO)an unloved woman when she (AP)gets a husband,
and a maidservant when she displaces her mistress.
24 (AQ)Four things on earth are small,
but they are exceedingly wise:
25 (AR)the ants are a people not strong,
yet they provide their food in the summer;
26 (AS)the rock badgers are a people not mighty,
yet they make their homes in the cliffs;
27 the locusts have no (AT)king,
yet all of them march in (AU)rank;
28 the lizard you can take in your hands,
yet it is in kings' palaces.
29 (AV)Three things are stately in their tread;
(AW)four are stately in their stride:
30 the lion, which is mightiest among beasts
and (AX)does not turn back before any;
31 the (AY)strutting rooster,[e] the he-goat,
and a king whose army is with him.[f]
32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself,
or if you have been devising evil,
(AZ)put your hand on your mouth.
33 For pressing milk produces curds,
pressing the nose produces blood,
and pressing anger produces strife.
