30 ¶ Palabras de Agur, hijo de Jaqué: La profecía que dijo el varón a Itiel, a Itiel y a Ucal.
2 Ciertamente más rudo soy yo que ninguno, ni tengo entendimiento de hombre.
3 Yo ni aprendí sabiduría, ni conozco la teología.
4 ¿Quién subió al cielo, y descendió? ¿Quién encerró los vientos en sus puños? ¿Quién ató las aguas en un paño? ¿Quién afirmó todos los términos de la tierra? ¿Cuál es su nombre, y el nombre de su hijo, si sabes?
5 Toda palabra de Dios es limpia; es escudo a los que en él esperan.
6 No añadas a sus palabras, para que no te reprenda, y seas hallado mentiroso.
7 ¶ Dos cosas te he demandado; no me las niegues antes que muera:
8 Vanidad y palabra mentirosa aparta de mí; no me des pobreza ni riquezas; manténme del pan de mi juicio;
9 para que no me sacie, y te niegue, y diga, ¿Quién es el SEÑOR? O no sea que siendo pobre, hurte, y blasfeme el nombre de mi Dios.
10 ¶ No acuses al esclavo ante su señor, para que no te maldiga, y peques.
11 Hay generación que maldice a su padre, y a su madre no bendice.
12 Hay generación limpia en su opinión, y nunca se ha limpiado su inmundicia.
13 Hay generación cuyos ojos son altivos, y cuyos párpados son alzados.
14 Hay generación cuyos dientes son espadas, y sus muelas cuchillos, para devorar de la tierra a los pobres, y de entre los hombres a los menesterosos.
15 ¶ La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas que se llaman, dame, dame. Tres cosas hay que nunca se sacian; aun la cuarta nunca dice, basta:
16 El Seol, y la matriz estéril, la tierra que no se sacie de aguas, y el fuego que jamás dice: Basta.
17 El ojo que escarnece a su padre, y menosprecia la enseñanza de la madre, los cuervos lo saquen del río, y lo devoren los hijos del águila.
18 ¶ Tres cosas me son ocultas; aun tampoco sé la cuarta:
19 El rastro del águila en el aire; el rastro de la culebra sobre la peña; el rastro de la nave en medio del mar; y el rastro del hombre en la doncella.
20 Tal es el rastro de la mujer adúltera, come, y limpia su boca, y dice: No he hecho maldad.
21 Por tres cosas se alborota la tierra, y la cuarta no puede sufrir:
22 Por el esclavo cuando reinare; y por el loco cuando se saciare de pan;
23 por la mujer aborrecida cuando se casare; y por la esclava cuando heredare a su señora.
24 ¶ Cuatro cosas son de las más pequeñas de la tierra, y las mismas son más sabias que los sabios:
25 Las hormigas, pueblo no fuerte, y en el verano preparan su comida;
26 los conejos, pueblo no fuerte, y ponen su casa en la piedra;
27 las langostas, no tienen rey, y salen todas acuadrilladas;
28 la araña, ase con las manos, y está en palacios de rey.
29 ¶ Tres cosas hay de hermoso andar, y la cuarta pasea muy bien:
30 El león, fuerte entre todos los animales, que no vuelve atrás por nadie;
31 el lebrel ceñido de lomos; asimismo el macho cabrío; y el rey contra el cual ninguno se levanta.
32 Si caíste, fue porque te enalteciste; y si mal pensaste, pon el dedo sobre la boca.
33 Ciertamente el que exprime la leche, sacará manteca; y el que recio se suena las narices, sacará sangre; y el que provoca la ira, causará contienda.

The Wisdom of Agur
30 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel—to Ithiel and Ucal:
2 (A)Surely I am more stupid than any man,
And do not have the understanding of a man.
3 I neither learned wisdom
Nor have (B)knowledge of the Holy One.
4 (C)Who has ascended into heaven, or descended?
(D)Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has bound the waters in a garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is His name, and what is His Son’s name,
If you know?
5 (E)Every word of God is [a]pure;
(F)He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
6 (G)Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
7 Two things I request of You
(Deprive me not before I die):
8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
Give me neither poverty nor riches—
(H)Feed me with the food allotted to me;
9 (I)Lest I be full and deny You,
And say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or lest I be poor and steal,
And profane the name of my God.
10 Do not malign a servant to his master,
Lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.
11 There is a generation that curses its (J)father,
And does not bless its mother.
12 There is a generation (K)that is pure in its own eyes,
Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
13 There is a generation—oh, how (L)lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are [b]lifted up.
14 (M)There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,
And whose fangs are like knives,
(N)To devour the poor from off the earth,
And the needy from among men.
15 The leech has two daughters—
Give and Give!
There are three things that are never satisfied,
Four never say, “Enough!”:
16 (O)The[c] grave,
The barren womb,
The earth that is not satisfied with water—
And the fire never says, “Enough!”
17 (P)The eye that mocks his father,
And scorns obedience to his mother,
The ravens of the valley will pick it out,
And the young eagles will eat it.
18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Yes, four which I do not understand:
19 The way of an eagle in the air,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
The way of a ship in the [d]midst of the sea,
And the way of a man with a virgin.
20 This is the way of an adulterous woman:
She eats and wipes her mouth,
And says, “I have done no wickedness.”
21 For three things the earth is perturbed,
Yes, for four it cannot bear up:
22 (Q)For a servant when he reigns,
A fool when he is filled with food,
23 A [e]hateful woman when she is married,
And a maidservant who succeeds her mistress.
24 There are four things which are little on the earth,
But they are exceedingly wise:
25 (R)The ants are a people not strong,
Yet they prepare their food in the summer;
26 (S)The [f]rock badgers are a feeble folk,
Yet they make their homes in the crags;
27 The locusts have no king,
Yet they all advance in ranks;
28 The [g]spider skillfully grasps with its hands,
And it is in kings’ palaces.
29 There are three things which are majestic in pace,
Yes, four which are stately in walk:
30 A lion, which is mighty among beasts
And does not turn away from any;
31 A [h]greyhound,
A male goat also,
And [i]a king whose troops are with him.
32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself,
Or if you have devised evil, (T)put your hand on your mouth.
33 For as the churning of milk produces butter,
And wringing the nose produces blood,
So the forcing of wrath produces strife.

30 The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle.[a]
The man declares, I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God, and worn out.[b]
2 Surely I am too (A)stupid to be a man.
I have not the understanding of a man.
3 I have not learned wisdom,
nor have I knowledge of (B)the Holy One.
4 Who has (C)ascended to heaven and come down?
Who has (D)gathered the wind in his fists?
Who has (E)wrapped up the waters in a garment?
Who has established all (F)the ends of the earth?
(G)What is his name, and what is his son's name?
Surely you know!
5 (H)Every word of God proves true;
he is (I)a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 (J)Do not add to his words,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.
7 Two things I ask of you;
deny them not to me (K)before I die:

the needy from among mankind.
