Exhortación a la sabiduría
3 Hijo mío, no te olvides de mi enseñanza[a](A),
Y tu corazón guarde mis mandamientos(B),
2 Porque largura de días y años de vida(C)
Y paz te añadirán.
3 La misericordia y la verdad nunca se aparten de ti(D);
Átalas a tu cuello(E),
Escríbelas en la tabla de tu corazón(F).
4 Así hallarás favor y buena estimación(G)
Ante los ojos de Dios y de los hombres(H).
5 Confía en el Señor(I) con todo tu corazón,
Y no te apoyes en tu propio entendimiento(J).
6 Reconócelo(K) en todos tus caminos,
Y Él enderezará tus sendas(L).
7 No seas sabio a tus propios ojos(M);
Teme[b] al Señor y apártate del mal(N).
8 Será medicina para tu cuerpo[c](O)
Y alivio para tus huesos(P).
9 Honra al Señor con tus bienes(Q)
Y con las primicias de todos tus frutos(R);
10 Entonces tus graneros se llenarán con abundancia(S)
Y tus lagares rebosarán de vino nuevo(T).
11 Hijo mío, no rechaces la disciplina[d] del Señor
Ni aborrezcas Su reprensión(U),
12 Porque el Señor ama a quien reprende(V),
Como un padre al hijo(W) en quien se deleita.
Beneficios de la sabiduría
13 ¶Bienaventurado(X) el hombre que halla sabiduría
Y el hombre que adquiere entendimiento.
14 Porque su ganancia es mejor que la ganancia de la plata,
Y sus utilidades mejor que el oro fino(Y).
15 Es más preciosa que las joyas[e],
Y nada de lo que deseas se compara con ella(Z).
16 Larga vida[f](AA) hay en su mano derecha,
En su mano izquierda, riquezas y honra(AB).
17 Sus caminos son caminos agradables
Y todas sus sendas, paz(AC).
18 Es árbol de vida(AD) para los que echan mano de ella,
Y felices son los que la abrazan.
19 Con sabiduría fundó el Señor la tierra(AE),
Con inteligencia estableció los cielos(AF).
20 Con su conocimiento los abismos fueron divididos(AG)
Y los cielos destilan rocío(AH).
21 Hijo mío, no se aparten estas cosas de tus ojos(AI);
Guarda la prudencia[g] y la discreción,
22 Y serán vida(AJ) para tu alma
Y adorno para tu cuello(AK).
23 Entonces andarás con seguridad por tu camino(AL),
Y tu pie no tropezará(AM).
24 Cuando te acuestes no tendrás temor(AN),
Sí, te acostarás y será dulce tu sueño.
25 No temerás el pavor repentino(AO),
Ni el ataque[h] de los impíos cuando venga(AP),
26 Porque el Señor será tu confianza[i],
Y guardará tu pie(AQ) de ser apresado.
27 ¶No niegues el bien a quien se le debe[j](AR),
Cuando esté en tu mano el hacerlo.
28 No digas a tu prójimo: «Ve y vuelve,
Y mañana te lo daré»,
Cuando lo tienes contigo(AS).
29 No trames el mal(AT) contra tu prójimo,
Mientras habite seguro a tu lado.
30 No pelees con nadie sin motivo,
Si no te ha hecho daño(AU).
31 No envidies al hombre violento(AV),
Y no escojas ninguno de sus caminos.
32 Porque el hombre perverso es abominación para el Señor(AW);
Pero Él es amigo íntimo[k](AX) de los rectos.
33 La maldición del Señor(AY) está sobre la casa del impío,
Pero Él bendice la morada del justo(AZ).
34 Ciertamente Él se burla de los burladores,
Pero da gracia a los afligidos(BA).
35 El sabio heredará honra(BB),
Pero los necios hacen resaltar[l] su deshonra.

Guidance for the Young
3 My son, do not forget my law,
(A)But let your heart keep my commands;
2 For length of days and long life
And (B)peace they will add to you.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
(C)Bind them around your neck,
(D)Write them on the tablet of your heart,
4 (E)And so find favor and [a]high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
5 (F)Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
(G)And lean not on your own understanding;
6 (H)In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall [b]direct your paths.
7 Do not be wise in your own (I)eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your [c]flesh,
And (J)strength[d] to your bones.
9 (K)Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
10 (L)So your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine.
11 (M)My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction;
12 For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
(N)Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
13 (O)Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;
14 (P)For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,
And her gain than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies,
And (Q)all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.
16 (R)Length of days is in her right hand,
In her left hand riches and honor.
17 (S)Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.
18 She is (T)a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who [e]retain her.
19 (U)The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
By understanding He established the heavens;
20 By His knowledge the depths were (V)broken up,
And clouds drop down the dew.
21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes—
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
22 So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.
23 (W)Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
25 (X)Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
26 For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.
27 (Y)Do not withhold good from [f]those to whom it is due,
When it is in the power of your hand to do so.
28 (Z)Do not say to your neighbor,
“Go, and come back,
And tomorrow I will give it,”
When you have it with you.
29 Do not devise evil against your neighbor,
For he dwells by you for safety’s sake.
30 (AA)Do not strive with a man without cause,
If he has done you no harm.
31 (AB)Do not envy the oppressor,
And choose none of his ways;
32 For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord,
(AC)But His secret counsel is with the upright.
33 (AD)The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,
But (AE)He blesses the home of the just.
34 (AF)Surely He scorns the scornful,
But gives grace to the humble.
35 The wise shall inherit glory,
But shame shall be the legacy of fools.

3 Fiule, nu uita învăţăturile mele
şi păstrează în inima(A) ta sfaturile mele!
2 Căci ele îţi vor lungi zilele şi anii vieţii tale
şi-ţi vor aduce multă pace(B).
3 Să nu te părăsească bunătatea şi credincioşia:
leagă-ţi-le(C) la gât,
scrie-le(D) pe tăbliţa inimii tale.
4 Şi astfel vei căpăta trecere(E) şi minte sănătoasă
înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.
5 Încrede-te(F) în Domnul din toată inima ta
şi nu(G) te bizui pe înţelepciunea ta!
6 Recunoaşte-L(H) în toate căile tale,
şi El îţi va netezi(I) cărările.
7 Nu te socoti singur(J) înţelept;
teme-te(K) de Domnul şi abate-te de la rău!
8 Aceasta va aduce sănătate trupului tău
şi răcorire oaselor(L) tale.
9 Cinsteşte(M) pe Domnul cu averile tale
şi cu cele dintâi roade din tot venitul tău,
10 căci(N) atunci grânarele îţi vor fi pline de belşug
şi teascurile tale vor geme de must.
Fericirea şi înţelepciunea adevărată
11 Fiule(O), nu dispreţui mustrarea Domnului
şi nu te mâhni de pedepsele Lui.
12 Căci Domnul mustră pe cine iubeşte,
ca un părinte(P) pe copilul pe care-l iubeşte!
13 Ferice(Q) de omul care găseşte înţelepciunea
şi de omul care capătă pricepere!
14 Căci câştigul(R) pe care-l aduce ea este mai bun decât al argintului,
şi venitul adus de ea este mai de preţ decât aurul;
15 ea este mai de preţ decât mărgăritarele
şi toate comorile(S) tale nu se pot asemui cu ea.
16 În dreapta ei este o viaţă lungă(T);
în stânga ei, bogăţie şi slavă.
17 Căile(U) ei sunt nişte căi plăcute
şi toate cărările ei sunt nişte cărări paşnice.
18 Ea este un pom de(V) viaţă pentru cei ce o apucă,
şi cei ce o au sunt fericiţi.
19 Prin înţelepciune a întemeiat Domnul(W) pământul
şi prin pricepere a întărit El cerurile;
20 prin ştiinţa(X) Lui s-au deschis adâncurile
şi strecoară norii(Y) roua.
21 Fiule, să nu se depărteze învăţăturile acestea de ochii tăi:
păstrează înţelepciunea şi chibzuinţa!
22 Căci ele vor fi viaţa sufletului tău
şi podoaba(Z) gâtului tău.
23 Atunci(AA) vei merge cu încredere pe drumul tău,
şi piciorul nu ţi se va poticni.
24 Când(AB) te vei culca, vei fi fără teamă
şi când vei dormi, somnul îţi va fi dulce.
25 Nu te teme nici de spaimă năpraznică(AC),
nici de o năvălire din partea celor răi,
26 căci Domnul va fi nădejdea ta
şi El îţi va păzi piciorul de cădere.
Îndemnuri la o bună vieţuire
27 Nu opri o binefacere(AD) celui ce are nevoie de ea
când poţi s-o faci.
28 Nu(AE) zice aproapelui tău: „Du-te şi vino iarăşi;
îţi voi da mâine!”,
când ai de unde să dai!
29 Nu gândi rău împotriva aproapelui tău
când locuieşte liniştit lângă tine.
30 Nu te certa(AF) fără pricină cu cineva,
când nu ţi-a făcut niciun rău.
31 Nu pizmui pe omul asupritor(AG)
şi nu alege niciuna din căile lui!
32 Căci Domnul urăşte pe oamenii stricaţi,
dar este prieten cu cei fără prihană(AH).
33 Blestemul(AI) Domnului este în casa celui rău,
dar locuinţa celor neprihăniţi o binecuvântează(AJ).
34 Când are a face cu cei batjocoritori,
Îşi bate joc(AK) de ei,
dar celor smeriţi le dă har.
35 Înţelepţii vor moşteni slava,
dar partea celor nebuni este ruşinea.
