29 El que se empecina ante la reprensión
acabará en la ruina pronto y sin remedio.
2 Cuando los justos triunfan, el pueblo se alegra;
cuando gobierna el impío, el pueblo gime.
3 El que ama la sabiduría alegra a su padre;
el que frecuenta rameras dilapida sus bienes.
4 Con justicia, el rey afirma la tierra;
la destruye el que impone tributos.
5 El que prodiga lisonjas a su prójimo
sólo está tendiéndole una trampa.
6 El pecado del malvado es su propia trampa,
pero el justo canta y vive feliz.
7 El justo hace suya la causa de los pobres;
de esto, el impío no entiende nada.
8 Los burlones pueden azuzar a toda una ciudad,
pero los sabios saben calmar los ánimos.
9 Cuando el sabio entra en pleito con el necio,
el necio no deja de reírse ni de burlarse.
10 Los homicidas odian al hombre cabal,
pero los hombres honrados buscan su bien.
11 El necio da rienda suelta a su enojo,
pero el sabio sabe cómo calmarlo.
12 Cuando un gobernante hace caso de mentiras,
todos sus servidores se vuelven corruptos.
13 El pobre y el usurero coinciden en algo:
el Señor da luz a los ojos de ambos.
14 El trono del rey se afirma para siempre,
si éste juzga a los pobres con la verdad.
15 La vara y la corrección imparten sabiduría,
pero el hijo consentido avergüenza a su madre.
16 Si aumentan los impíos, aumenta el pecado,
pero los justos los verán fracasar.
17 Corrige a tu hijo, y vivirás tranquilo,
y a ti mismo te dará grandes alegrías.
18 Cuando no hay visión, el pueblo se desvía;
¡dichoso aquél que obedece la ley!
19 Al siervo no se le corrige con palabras,
porque entiende pero no hace caso.
20 Fíjate en la gente que habla a la ligera:
¡más se espera del necio que de esa gente!
21 Si desde niño el amo consiente al siervo,
al final el siervo será su amo.
22 El hombre irascible suscita contiendas,
y el hombre violento comete muchos pecados.
23 La soberbia humilla al hombre;
al humilde de espíritu lo sostiene la honra.
24 El cómplice del ladrón se odia a sí mismo,
pues oye la imprecación y guarda silencio.
25 El miedo a los hombres es una trampa,
pero el que confía en el Señor es exaltado.
26 Muchos buscan el favor del gobernante,
pero la sentencia de cada uno viene del Señor.
27 Para los justos, los malvados son repugnantes;
para los malvados, los repugnantes son los justos.

29 A man who hardens his neck after (A)much reproof
Will (B)suddenly be broken [a]beyond healing.
2 When the (C)righteous [b]increase, the people are glad,
But when a wicked man rules, people groan.
3 A man who (D)loves wisdom makes his father glad,
But he who (E)befriends harlots destroys his wealth.
4 By justice the (F)king causes the land to stand,
But a man of bribes tears it down.
5 A man who (G)flatters his neighbor
Is spreading a net for his steps.
6 By transgression an evil man is (H)ensnared,
But the righteous (I)sings with joy and is glad.
7 The (J)righteous knows the cause of the poor,
The wicked does not understand that knowledge.
8 Scoffers [c](K)set a city aflame,
But (L)wise men turn away anger.
9 When a wise man is brought into judgment with a man who is an ignorant fool,
[d]The ignorant fool both rages and laughs, and there is no rest.
10 Men of (M)bloodshed hate the blameless,
But the upright seek the well-being of his soul.
11 A (N)fool [e]lets out all of his spirit,
But a (O)wise man holds it back.
12 If a (P)ruler pays attention to a lying word,
All his ministers become wicked.
13 The (Q)poor man and the oppressor meet together in this—
Yahweh gives (R)light to the eyes of both.
14 If a (S)king judges the poor with truth,
His (T)throne will be established forever.
15 The (U)rod and reproof give wisdom,
But a child [f]left to himself (V)brings shame to his mother.
16 When the wicked [g]increase, transgression increases;
But the (W)righteous will see their fall.
17 (X)Discipline your son, and he will give you rest;
And he will (Y)give delight to your soul.
18 Where there is (Z)no [h]vision, the people (AA)are out of control,
But how (AB)blessed is he who keeps the law.
19 A slave will not be corrected by words alone;
For though he understands, there will be no answer.
20 Do you behold a man who is (AC)hasty in his words?
There is (AD)more hope for a fool than for him.
21 He who pampers his slave from childhood
Will in the end find him to be [i]arrogant.
22 An (AE)angry man stirs up strife,
And a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.
23 A man’s (AF)lofty pride will bring him low,
But a (AG)lowly spirit will take hold of glory.
24 He who [j]divides the spoil with a thief hates his own soul;
He (AH)hears the oath but declares nothing.
25 (AI)Trembling before man [k]brings a snare,
But he who (AJ)trusts in Yahweh will be set securely on high.
26 (AK)Many seek the face of a ruler,
But (AL)justice for man comes from Yahweh.
27 An (AM)unjust man is an abomination to the righteous,
And he who is (AN)upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.

29 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the Lord lighteneth both their eyes.
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.
26 Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the Lord.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
