28 El impío huye sin que nadie lo persiga(A),
Pero los justos están confiados como un león.
2 Por la transgresión de la tierra, muchos son sus príncipes(B);
Pero por el hombre entendido y de conocimiento permanece estable[a](C).
3 El pobre que oprime a los humildes(D)
Es como lluvia torrencial que no deja[b] pan.
4 Los que abandonan la ley alaban a los impíos(E),
Pero los que guardan la ley luchan contra ellos(F).
5 Los hombres malvados no entienden de justicia[c](G),
Pero los que buscan al Señor lo entienden todo(H).
6 Mejor es el pobre que anda en su integridad(I)
Que el que es perverso[d], aunque sea rico.
7 El que guarda la ley es hijo entendido,
Pero el que es compañero de glotones(J) avergüenza a su padre.
8 El que aumenta su riqueza por interés y usura(K),
La recoge para el que se apiada de los pobres(L).
9 Al que aparta su oído para no oír la ley,
Su oración también es abominación(M).
10 El que extravía a los rectos por el mal camino
En su propia fosa caerá(N),
Pero los íntegros[e] heredarán el bien(O).
11 El rico es sabio ante sus propios ojos(P),
Pero el pobre que es entendido, lo sondea[f].
12 Cuando los justos triunfan, grande es la gloria(Q),
Pero cuando los impíos se levantan, los hombres se esconden[g](R).
13 El que encubre sus pecados no prosperará(S),
Pero el que los confiesa y los abandona hallará misericordia(T).
14 Cuán bienaventurado es el hombre que siempre teme(U),
Pero el que endurece su corazón caerá en el infortunio(V).
15 Cual león rugiente(W) y oso agresivo
Es el gobernante perverso sobre el pueblo pobre(X).
16 Al príncipe que es gran opresor le falta entendimiento(Y),
Pero el que odia las ganancias injustas prolongará sus días.
17 El hombre cargado con culpa de sangre humana,
Fugitivo será hasta la muerte[h](Z); que nadie lo apoye.
18 El que anda en integridad[i] será salvo,
Pero el que es de camino torcido[j] caerá de repente(AA).
19 El que labra su tierra se saciará de pan(AB),
Pero el que sigue propósitos vanos se llenará de pobreza.
20 El hombre fiel abundará en bendiciones(AC),
Pero el que se apresura a enriquecerse no quedará sin castigo(AD).
21 Hacer acepción de personas[k] no es bueno(AE),
Pues por un bocado de pan el hombre pecará(AF).
22 El hombre avaro[l](AG) corre tras la riqueza(AH)
Y no sabe que la miseria vendrá sobre él.
23 El que reprende al hombre(AI) hallará después más favor
Que el que lo lisonjea con la lengua(AJ).
24 El que roba a su padre o a su madre(AK)
Y dice: «No es transgresión»,
Es compañero del hombre destructor(AL).
25 El hombre arrogante[m] provoca rencillas(AM),
Pero el que confía en el Señor prosperará[n](AN).
26 El que confía en su propio corazón(AO) es un necio,
Pero el que anda con sabiduría será librado.
27 El que da al pobre no pasará necesidad(AP),
Pero el que cierra[o] sus ojos tendrá muchas maldiciones.
28 Cuando los impíos se levantan, los hombres se esconden;
Pero cuando perecen, los justos se multiplican.

Proverbs 28
The Voice
28 The wicked run away even when no one is chasing them;
the right-living, however, stand their ground as boldly as lions.
2 Where there is rebellion in a land,
there are many petty and contending rulers;
But where there is a wise and intelligent leader,
peace and order endure.
3 A poor person who oppresses others who are poor
is like a driving rain that destroys the crops and leaves no food.
4 Those who turn their backs on God’s teaching applaud the wicked,
while those who observe His instruction oppose them at every turn.
5 Evil people are not able to understand justice,
but those who pursue the Eternal understand it completely.
6 It is better to be a pauper walking in integrity
than a dishonest man, even if he is rich.
7 Whoever follows God’s teaching is a wise child,
but the one who spends time with gluttons and drunks disgraces his parents.
8 Anyone who increases his wealth by charging a high rate of interest
is only collecting it for another who will deal more liberally with the poor.
9 The one who turns his ear from hearing God’s instruction
will find that even his prayers are detestable to God.
10 Whoever tries to deceive a good person into taking the path of evil
will fall into the pit he himself made,
but the truly honest shall be the heirs of all that is good.
11 A rich man may be wise in his own sight,
but a perceptive pauper will see right through him.
12 There is much glory when just men celebrate;
but when the wicked gain power, people take cover.
13 Whoever tries to hide his sins will not succeed,
but the one who confesses his sins and leaves them behind will find mercy.
14 Happy is the one who always fears the Lord,
but the person who hardens his heart to God falls into misfortune.
15 Like a roaring lion or a charging bear,
so is a wicked man ruling over an impoverished people.
16 A leader who lacks intelligence cruelly oppresses the people,
but one who hates corruption will prosper and live a long life.
17 A man guilty of murder is a fugitive,
fleeing to the nearest hole in the ground but not escaping death’s cold pit.
Don’t do anything to save him.
18 Whoever walks in honesty will be safe,
but whoever travels the crooked path will suddenly fall.
19 Whoever cultivates his land will have plenty of food in the harvest,
but whoever cultivates worthless ventures will have poverty in abundance.
20 A reliable person will not escape blessings,
but one who wants to get rich quick will not escape trouble.
21 Showing favoritism is not good;
some will desert the truth for a measly crust of bread.
22 A greedy person is in a hurry to get rich,
but he is ignorant of the loss that is about to overtake him.
23 A person who offers constructive criticism will, in the end, be appreciated more
than a person who engages in empty flattery.
24 One who robs his father or his mother
and says, “There’s nothing wrong with that! I had it coming!”
walks in the company of murderers.
25 When the greedy want more, they stir up trouble;
but when a person trusts in the Eternal, he’s sure to prosper.
26 Anyone who puts confidence only in himself is a fool,
but the person who follows wisdom will be kept safe.
27 Whoever gives to the poor will have what he needs,
but the one who shuts his eyes to their plight will face curse after curse.
28 When the wicked have the upper hand, people go into hiding;
but when they perish, the good folk will begin to increase.

28 Hinir óguðlegu flýja, þótt enginn elti þá, en hinir réttlátu eru öruggir eins og ungt ljón.
2 Þegar land gengur undan drottnara sínum, gjörast þar margir höfðingjar, en meðal skynsamra og hygginna manna mun góð skipan lengi standa.
3 Maður sem er fátækur og kúgar snauða, er eins og regn, sem skolar burt korninu, en veitir ekkert brauð.
4 Þeir sem yfirgefa lögmálið, hrósa óguðlegum, en þeir sem varðveita lögmálið, eru æfir út af þeim.
5 Illmenni skilja ekki hvað rétt er, en þeir sem leita Drottins, skilja allt.
6 Betri er fátækur maður, sem framgengur í ráðvendni sinni, heldur en sá, sem beitir undirferli og er þó ríkur.
7 Sá sem varðveitir lögmálið, er hygginn sonur, en sá sem leggur lag sitt við óhófsmenn, gjörir föður sínum smán.
8 Sá sem eykur auð sinn með fjárleigu og okri, safnar honum handa þeim, sem líknsamur er við fátæka.
9 Sá sem snýr eyra sínu frá til þess að heyra ekki lögmálið, _ jafnvel bæn hans er andstyggð.
10 Sá sem tælir falslausa menn út á vonda leið, hann fellur sjálfur í gröf sína, en ráðvandir munu hljóta góða arfleifð.
11 Ríkur maður þykist vitur, en snauður maður, sem er hygginn, sér við honum.
12 Þegar hinir réttlátu fagna, er mikið um dýrðir, en þegar óguðlegir komast upp, fela menn sig.
13 Sá sem dylur yfirsjónir sínar, verður ekki lángefinn, en sá sem játar þær og lætur af þeim, mun miskunn hljóta.
14 Sæll er sá maður, sem ávallt er var um sig, en sá sem herðir hjarta sitt, fellur í ógæfu.
15 Eins og grenjandi ljón og gráðugur björn, svo er óguðlegur drottnari yfir lítilsigldum lýð.
16 Höfðingi, sem hefir litlar tekjur, er ríkur að kúgun, sá sem hatar rangfenginn ávinning, mun langlífur verða.
17 Sá maður, sem blóðsök hvílir þungt á, er á flótta fram á grafarbarminn; enginn dvelji hann.
18 Sá sem breytir ráðvandlega, mun frelsast, en sá sem beitir undirferli, fellur í gryfju.
19 Sá sem yrkir land sitt, mettast af brauði, en sá sem sækist eftir hégómlegum hlutum, mettast af fátækt.
20 Áreiðanlegur maður blessast ríkulega, en sá sem fljótt vill verða ríkur, sleppur ekki við refsingu.
21 Hlutdrægni er ljót, en þó fremja menn ranglæti fyrir einn brauðbita.
22 Öfundsjúkur maður flýtir sér að safna auði og veit ekki að örbirgð muni yfir hann koma.
23 Sá sem ávítar mann, mun á síðan öðlast meiri hylli heldur er tungumjúkur smjaðrari.
24 Sá sem rænir foreldra sína og segir: "Það er engin synd!" hann er stallbróðir eyðandans.
25 Ágjarn maður vekur deilur, en sá sem treystir Drottni, mettast ríkulega.
26 Sá sem treystir eigin hyggjuviti, er heimskingi, en sá sem breytir viturlega, mun undan komast.
27 Sá sem gefur fátækum, líður engan skort, en þeim sem byrgir augu sín, koma margar óbænir.
28 Þegar hinir óguðlegu komast upp, fela menn sig, en þegar þeir tortímast, fjölgar réttlátum.
