27 No te jactes del día de mañana;
Porque no sabes qué dará de sí el día.
2 Alábete el extraño, y no tu propia boca;
El ajeno, y no los labios tuyos.
3 Pesada es la piedra, y la arena pesa;
Mas la ira del necio es más pesada que ambas.
4 Cruel es la ira, e impetuoso el furor;
Mas ¿quién podrá sostenerse delante de la envidia?
5 Mejor es reprensión manifiesta
Que amor encubierto.
6 Fieles son las heridas del que ama;
Pero importunos los besos del que aborrece.
7 El hombre saciado desprecia el panal de miel;
Pero al hambriento todo lo amargo es dulce.
8 Cual ave que se va de su nido,
Tal es el hombre que se va de su lugar.
9 El ungüento y el perfume alegran el corazón,
Y el cordial consejo del amigo consuela al hombre.
10 No dejes a tu amigo, ni al amigo de tu padre;
Y no tendrás que ir a la casa de tu hermano en el día de tu aflicción.
Mejor es el vecino cerca que el hermano lejos.
11 Sé sabio, hijo mío, y alegra mi corazón,
Y tendré qué responder al que me agravie.
12 El avisado ve el peligro y se esconde;
Mas los simples siguen adelante y reciben el daño.
13 Quítale su ropa al que salió fiador por el extraño;
Y al que fía a una extranjera, tómale prenda.
14 El que bendice a su amigo en alta voz, en la mañana temprano,
Por maldición se le contará.
15 Gotera continua en tiempo de lluvia
Y la mujer rencillosa, son semejantes;
16 Pretender contenerla es como refrenar el viento,
O sujetar aceite con la mano derecha.
17 Hierro con hierro se aguza;
Y así el hombre aguza el rostro de su amigo.
18 Quien cuida la higuera comerá su fruto,
Y el que mira por los intereses de su señor, tendrá honra.
19 Como mirándose en el agua, el rostro responde al rostro,
Así el corazón del hombre responde al hombre.
20 El Seol y el Averno nunca se sacian;
Así los ojos del hombre nunca están satisfechos.
21 Como el crisol prueba la plata, y la hornaza el oro,
Así es para el hombre la boca del que lo alaba.
22 Aunque machaques al necio en un mortero entre granos de trigo majados con el pisón,
No se apartará de él su necedad.
23 Sé diligente en conocer el estado de tus ovejas,
Y mira con cuidado por tus rebaños;
24 Porque las riquezas no duran para siempre;
Ni las diademas para perpetuas generaciones.
25 Saldrá la grama, aparecerá la hierba,
Y se segarán las hierbas de los montes.
26 Los corderos son para tus vestidos,
Y los cabritos para el precio del campo;
27 Y abundancia de leche de las cabras para tu mantenimiento, para mantenimiento de tu casa,
Y para sustento de tus criadas.

¡Nadie controla el futuro!
27 No presumas hoy
de lo que piensas hacer mañana;
¡nadie sabe lo que traerá el futuro!
2 No presumas de ti mismo;
deja que te alaben los demás.
3 Las piedras son pesadas,
y la arena también,
pero aún más pesado
es el enojo del necio.
4 El enojo es cruel,
la ira es destructiva,
y la envidia es incontrolable.
5 Quien de veras te ama
te reprenderá abiertamente.
6 Más te quiere tu amigo cuando te hiere
que tu enemigo cuando te besa.
7 Cuando no se tiene hambre,
hasta la miel empalaga;
cuando se tiene hambre,
hasta lo amargo sabe dulce.
8 Estar lejos de la patria,
es andar como pájaro sin nido.
9 Con un buen perfume
se alegra el corazón;
con la dulzura de la amistad
se vuelve a la vida.
10 Nunca les falles a los amigos,
sean tuyos o de tu padre.
Nunca lleves tus problemas
a la casa de tu hermano.
Más vale amigo cercano
que pariente lejano.
11 Querido jovencito,
hazme feliz actuando con sabiduría,
para taparles la boca
a los que quieran humillarme.
12 Prever el peligro y evitarlo
es actuar con inteligencia;
hay que ser muy tonto
para no preverlo ni evitarlo.
13 El que se comprometa a pagar
las deudas de un desconocido
y se enrede con una mujer infiel
perderá todo lo que tenga.
14 Hasta el mejor saludo
es un insulto grave,
si se hace a gritos
y en la madrugada.
15 Peor que gotera en día lluvioso,
es la persona que por todo pelea.
16 ¡Querer controlarla
es querer atajar el viento
o retener aceite en la mano!
17 Para afilar el hierro, la lima;
para ser mejor persona, el amigo.
18 Si quieres buena fruta,
cuida del árbol;
si quieres buen trato,
trata bien a tu jefe.
19 El espejo refleja el rostro;
y los ojos revelan la personalidad.
20 Hay tres cosas
que nunca están satisfechas:
la tumba, la muerte,
y la ambición humana.
21 Con el fuego se descubre
qué clase de metal tenemos;
con los elogios se descubre
qué clase de persona somos.
22 Si al trigo lo machacas,
puedes quitarle la cáscara,
pero al necio, aunque lo remuelas,
no se le quita lo necio.
23-25 Las riquezas no son eternas
ni el dinero dura para siempre.
Las cosechas se acaban,
y la hierba se seca.
Por eso, cuida bien tus rebaños.
26-27 Tus ovejas te darán su lana,
tus cabras te darán mucha leche,
y así podrán alimentarse
tú y tu familia
y hasta tus empleados.
Además podrás vender tus cabras
y con el dinero comprar un terreno.

2 Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth;
an outsider, and not your own lips.(C)
3 Stone is heavy and sand(D) a burden,
but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.
4 Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming,
but who can stand before jealousy?(E)
5 Better is open rebuke
than hidden love.
6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
but an enemy multiplies kisses.(F)
7 One who is full loathes honey from the comb,
but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
8 Like a bird that flees its nest(G)
is anyone who flees from home.
9 Perfume(H) and incense bring joy to the heart,
and the pleasantness of a friend
springs from their heartfelt advice.
10 Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family,
and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster(I) strikes you—
better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away.
11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart;(J)
then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.(K)
12 The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.(L)
13 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;
hold it in pledge if it is done for an outsider.(M)
14 If anyone loudly blesses their neighbor early in the morning,
it will be taken as a curse.
15 A quarrelsome wife is like the dripping(N)
of a leaky roof in a rainstorm;
16 restraining her is like restraining the wind
or grasping oil with the hand.
17 As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another.
18 The one who guards a fig tree will eat its fruit,(O)
and whoever protects their master will be honored.(P)
19 As water reflects the face,
so one’s life reflects the heart.[a]
21 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold,(S)
but people are tested by their praise.
22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar,
grinding them like grain with a pestle,
you will not remove their folly from them.
23 Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,(T)
give careful attention to your herds;
24 for riches do not endure forever,(U)
and a crown is not secure for all generations.
25 When the hay is removed and new growth appears
and the grass from the hills is gathered in,
26 the lambs will provide you with clothing,
and the goats with the price of a field.
27 You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family
and to nourish your female servants.

27 Do(A) not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
2 (B)Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth;
A stranger, and not your own lips.
3 A stone is heavy and sand is weighty,
But a fool’s wrath is heavier than both of them.
4 Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent,
But (C)who is able to stand before jealousy?
5 (D)Open rebuke is better
Than love carefully concealed.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But the kisses of an enemy are (E)deceitful.
7 A satisfied soul [a]loathes the honeycomb,
But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 Like a bird that wanders from its nest
Is a man who wanders from his place.
9 Ointment and perfume delight the heart,
And the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by [b]hearty counsel.
10 Do not forsake your own friend or your father’s friend,
Nor go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity;
(F)Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad,
(G)That I may answer him who reproaches me.
12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself;
The simple pass on and are (H)punished.
13 Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger,
And hold it in pledge when he is surety for a seductress.
14 He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning,
It will be counted a curse to him.
15 A (I)continual dripping on a very rainy day
And a contentious woman are alike;
16 Whoever [c]restrains her restrains the wind,
And grasps oil with his right hand.
17 As iron sharpens iron,
So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
18 (J)Whoever [d]keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit;
So he who waits on his master will be honored.
19 As in water face reflects face,
So a man’s heart reveals the man.
21 (M)The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
And a man is valued by what others say of him.
22 (N)Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain,
Yet his foolishness will not depart from him.
23 Be diligent to know the state of your (O)flocks,
And attend to your herds;
24 For riches are not forever,
Nor does a crown endure to all generations.
25 (P)When the hay is removed, and the tender grass shows itself,
And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in,
26 The lambs will provide your clothing,
And the goats the price of a field;
27 You shall have enough goats’ milk for your food,
For the food of your household,
And the nourishment of your maidservants.
