26 No le va bien la nieve al verano
ni la lluvia a la cosecha
ni los honores al necio.
2 Como gorrión perdido o golondrina sin nido,
la maldición sin motivo jamás llegará a su destino.
3 Al caballo hay que domarlo,
al asno hay que frenarlo
y al necio hay que azotarlo.
4 El que al necio no responde,
por necio no pasa.
5 El que al necio sabe responder,
como tal le hace parecer.
6 Confiar al necio un mensaje
es cortarse los pies y buscarse problemas.
7 No va lejos el cojo con sus piernas
ni el proverbio dicho por un necio.
8 Tan absurdo es atar la piedra a la honda
como dar honra a los necios.
9 Ni el borracho la espina siente,
ni el necio el proverbio entiende.
10 Arquero que apunta a todo el que pasa
es quien da al necio trabajo en su casa.
11 El perro vuelve a su vómito
y el necio a su necedad.
12 Más se puede esperar del necio
que de quien se cree muy sabio.
13 Para no trabajar, el perezoso pretexta
que en la calle hay un león al acecho.
14 La puerta gira en sus bisagras
y el perezoso gira en la cama.
15 El perezoso mete la mano en el plato,
pero luego es incapaz de llevársela a la boca.
16 El perezoso se cree más sabio
que siete personas que saben responder.
17 Meterse en pleitos ajenos
es agarrar a un perro por las orejas.
18 Como un loco que lanza
mortales flechas de fuego,
19 así es quien engaña a su amigo
y luego dice que todo era un juego.
20 Sin leña se apaga el fuego,
y sin chismes se acaba el pleito.
21 Para hacer brasas, el carbón;
para hacer fuego, la leña;
y para entablar pleitos, el pendenciero.
22 Los chismes son como golosinas,
pero calan hasta lo más profundo.
23 Baño de plata sobre olla de barro
son las palabras suaves que llevan mala intención.
24 El que odia, lo disimula cuando habla,
pero en su interior hace planes malvados.
25 No le creas si te habla con ternura,
pues su mente está llena de maldad;
26 aunque trate de ocultar su odio,
su maldad se descubrirá ante todos.
27 El que cava una fosa, en ella cae;
al que hace rodar una roca, la roca lo aplasta.
28 El mentiroso odia la verdad,
el de suaves palabras provoca el desorden.

26 Cum nu se potrivesc zăpada vara şi(A) ploaia în timpul secerişului,
aşa nu se potriveşte slava pentru un nebun.
2 Cum sare vrabia încoace şi încolo şi cum zboară rândunica,
aşa nu nimereşte blestemul(B) neîntemeiat.
3 Biciul(C) este pentru cal, frâul, pentru măgar
şi nuiaua, pentru spinarea nebunilor.
4 Nu răspunde nebunului după nebunia lui,
ca să nu semeni şi tu cu el.
5 Răspunde(D) însă nebunului după nebunia lui,
ca să nu se creadă înţelept.
6 Cel ce trimite o solie printr-un nebun
îşi taie singur picioarele şi bea nedreptatea.
7 Cum sunt picioarele ologului,
aşa este şi o vorbă înţeleaptă în gura unor nebuni.
8 Cum ai pune o piatră în praştie,
aşa este când dai mărire unui nebun.
9 Ca un spin care vine în mâna unui om beat,
aşa este o vorbă înţeleaptă în gura nebunilor.
10 Ca un arcaş care răneşte pe toată lumea,
aşa este cel ce tocmeşte pe nebuni şi pe întâii veniţi.
11 Cum(E) se întoarce câinele la ce a vărsat,
aşa se întoarce nebunul(F) la nebunia lui.
12 Dacă vezi(G) un om care se crede înţelept,
poţi să ai mai multă nădejde pentru un nebun decât pentru el.
13 Leneşul(H) zice: „Afară este un leu,
pe uliţe este un leu!”
14 Cum se învârteşte uşa pe ţâţânile ei,
aşa se învârteşte leneşul(I) în patul lui.
15 Leneşul îşi vâră mâna în blid
şi-i vine greu s-o ducă iarăşi la gură.
16 Leneşul se crede mai înţelept
decât şapte oameni care răspund cu judecată.
17 Un trecător care se amestecă într-o ceartă care nu-l priveşte
este ca unul care apucă un câine de urechi.
18 Ca nebunul care aruncă
săgeţi aprinse şi ucigătoare,
19 aşa este omul care înşală pe aproapele său
şi apoi zice: „Am(J) vrut doar să glumesc!”
20 Când nu mai sunt lemne, focul se stinge,
şi, când nu(K) mai este niciun clevetitor, cearta se potoleşte.
21 După cum(L) cărbunele face jăratic şi lemnul foc,
tot aşa şi omul gâlcevitor aprinde cearta.
22 Cuvintele(M) clevetitorului sunt ca nişte prăjituri,
alunecă până în fundul măruntaielor.
23 Ca zgura de argint pusă pe un ciob de pământ,
aşa sunt buzele aprinse şi o inimă rea.
24 Cel ce urăşte se preface cu buzele lui
şi înăuntrul lui pregăteşte înşelăciunea.
25 Când(N) îţi vorbeşte cu glas dulce, nu-l crede,
căci şapte urâciuni sunt în inima lui.
26 Chiar dacă-şi ascunde ura în prefăcătorie,
totuşi răutatea lui se va descoperi în adunare.
27 Cine(O) sapă groapa altuia cade el în ea
şi piatra se întoarce peste cel ce o prăvăleşte.
28 Limba mincinoasă urăşte pe cei pe care-i doboară ea
şi gura linguşitoare pregăteşte pieirea.

26 Like snow in summer or rain(A) in harvest,
honor is not fitting for a fool.(B)
2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,
an undeserved curse does not come to rest.(C)
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,(D)
and a rod for the backs of fools!(E)
4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
or you yourself will be just like him.(F)
5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
or he will be wise in his own eyes.(G)
6 Sending a message by the hands of a fool(H)
is like cutting off one’s feet or drinking poison.
7 Like the useless legs of one who is lame
is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.(I)
8 Like tying a stone in a sling
is the giving of honor to a fool.(J)
9 Like a thornbush in a drunkard’s hand
is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.(K)
10 Like an archer who wounds at random
is one who hires a fool or any passer-by.
11 As a dog returns to its vomit,(L)
so fools repeat their folly.(M)
12 Do you see a person wise in their own eyes?(N)
There is more hope for a fool than for them.(O)
13 A sluggard says,(P) “There’s a lion in the road,
a fierce lion roaming the streets!”(Q)
14 As a door turns on its hinges,
so a sluggard turns on his bed.(R)
15 A sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.(S)
16 A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes
than seven people who answer discreetly.
17 Like one who grabs a stray dog by the ears
is someone who rushes into a quarrel not their own.
18 Like a maniac shooting
flaming arrows of death
19 is one who deceives their neighbor
and says, “I was only joking!”
20 Without wood a fire goes out;
without a gossip a quarrel dies down.(T)
21 As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire,
so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife.(U)
22 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
they go down to the inmost parts.(V)
23 Like a coating of silver dross on earthenware
are fervent[a] lips with an evil heart.
24 Enemies disguise themselves with their lips,(W)
but in their hearts they harbor deceit.(X)
25 Though their speech is charming,(Y) do not believe them,
for seven abominations fill their hearts.(Z)
26 Their malice may be concealed by deception,
but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27 Whoever digs a pit(AA) will fall into it;(AB)
if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.(AC)
28 A lying tongue hates those it hurts,
and a flattering mouth(AD) works ruin.

6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouths of fools.
10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
