Dios Habla Hoy
20 El vino hace insolente al hombre;
las bebidas fuertes lo alborotan;
bajo sus efectos nadie actúa sabiamente.
2 Un rey furioso es como un león rugiente;
quien lo provoca, pone su vida en peligro.
3 Es honra del hombre evitar discusiones,
mas cualquier necio puede iniciarlas.
4 Cuando es tiempo de arar, el perezoso no ara;
pero al llegar la cosecha, buscará y no encontrará.
5 Las intenciones secretas son como aguas profundas,
pero el que es inteligente sabe descubrirlas.
6 Hay muchos que presumen de leales,
pero no se halla a nadie en quien se pueda confiar.
7 ¡Felices los hijos que deja
quien ha vivido con rectitud y honradez!
8 Cuando el rey toma asiento en el tribunal,
le basta una sola mirada para barrer el mal.
9 Nadie puede decir: «Tengo puro el corazón,
estoy limpio de pecado.»
10 Pesas falsas y medidas con trampa
son dos cosas que el Señor aborrece.
11 Por sus acciones se conoce
si un joven se conduce con rectitud.
12 El oído para oír y el ojo para ver
fueron creados por el Señor.
13 No te entregues al sueño, o te quedarás pobre;
manténte despierto y tendrás pan de sobra.
14 «¡Que mala mercancía!», dice el comprador,
pero una vez comprada se felicita a sí mismo.
15 Vale más quien habla con sabiduría,
que todo el oro y las joyas del mundo.
16 Al que salga fiador por un extraño,
quítale la ropa y tómasela en prenda.
17 Al hombre le gusta alimentarse de mentiras,
aunque a la larga le resulte como bocado de tierra.
18 Los planes se afirman con un buen consejo;
la guerra se hace con una buena estrategia.
19 El chismoso no sabe guardar un secreto,
así que no te juntes con gente chismosa.
20 El que maldice a su padre o a su madre,
morirá en la más espantosa oscuridad.
21 Lo que al principio se adquiere fácilmente,
al final no es motivo de alegría.
22 Nunca hables de tomar venganza;
confía en el Señor, y él te hará triunfar.
23 El Señor aborrece el uso de pesas falsas;
las balanzas falsas son reprobables.
24 El Señor dirige los pasos del hombre;
nadie conoce su propio destino.
25 Es peligroso que el hombre le prometa algo a Dios
y que después reconsidere su promesa.
26 El rey sabio aleja de sí a los malvados
y los aplasta bajo una rueda.
27 El espíritu que Dios ha dado al hombre
es luz que alumbra lo más profundo de su ser.
28 El rey se mantiene seguro en su trono
cuando practica el amor y la verdad.
29 El orgullo de los jóvenes está en su fuerza;
la honra de los ancianos, en sus canas.
30 La maldad se cura con golpes y heridas;
los golpes hacen sanar la conciencia.

20 El vino es escarnecedor, la sidra alborotadora,
Y cualquiera que por ellos yerra no es sabio.
2 Como rugido de cachorro de león es el terror del rey;
El que lo enfurece peca contra sí mismo.
3 Honra es del hombre dejar la contienda;
Mas todo insensato se envolverá en ella.
4 El perezoso no ara a causa del invierno;
Pedirá, pues, en la siega, y no hallará.
5 Como aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre;
Mas el hombre entendido lo alcanzará.
6 Muchos hombres proclaman cada uno su propia bondad,
Pero hombre de verdad, ¿quién lo hallará?
7 Camina en su integridad el justo;
Sus hijos son dichosos después de él.
8 El rey que se sienta en el trono de juicio,
Con su mirar disipa todo mal.
9 ¿Quién podrá decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón,
Limpio estoy de mi pecado?
10 Pesa falsa y medida falsa,
Ambas cosas son abominación a Jehová.
11 Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechos,
Si su conducta fuere limpia y recta.
12 El oído que oye, y el ojo que ve,
Ambas cosas igualmente ha hecho Jehová.
13 No ames el sueño, para que no te empobrezcas;
Abre tus ojos, y te saciarás de pan.
14 El que compra dice: Malo es, malo es;
Mas cuando se aparta, se alaba.
15 Hay oro y multitud de piedras preciosas;
Mas los labios prudentes son joya preciosa.
16 Quítale su ropa al que salió por fiador del extraño,
Y toma prenda del que sale fiador por los extraños.
17 Sabroso es al hombre el pan de mentira;
Pero después su boca será llena de cascajo.
18 Los pensamientos con el consejo se ordenan;
Y con dirección sabia se hace la guerra.
19 El que anda en chismes descubre el secreto;
No te entremetas, pues, con el suelto de lengua.
20 Al que maldice a su padre o a su madre,
Se le apagará su lámpara en oscuridad tenebrosa.
21 Los bienes que se adquieren de prisa al principio,
No serán al final bendecidos.
22 No digas: Yo me vengaré;
Espera a Jehová, y él te salvará.
23 Abominación son a Jehová las pesas falsas,
Y la balanza falsa no es buena.
24 De Jehová son los pasos del hombre;
¿Cómo, pues, entenderá el hombre su camino?
25 Lazo es al hombre hacer apresuradamente voto de consagración,
Y después de hacerlo, reflexionar.
26 El rey sabio avienta a los impíos,
Y sobre ellos hace rodar la rueda.
27 Lámpara de Jehová es el espíritu del hombre,
La cual escudriña lo más profundo del corazón.
28 Misericordia y verdad guardan al rey,
Y con clemencia se sustenta su trono.
29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su fuerza,
Y la hermosura de los ancianos es su vejez.
30 Los azotes que hieren son medicina para el malo,
Y el castigo purifica el corazón.

20 Wine is a mocker,(A) beer is a brawler,
and whoever staggers because of them is not wise.
2 A king’s terrible wrath is like the roaring of a lion;
anyone who provokes him endangers himself.(B)
4 The slacker does not plow during planting season;[a]
at harvest time he looks,[b] and there is nothing.(E)
5 Counsel in a man’s heart is deep water;(F)
but a man of understanding draws it out.
6 Many a man proclaims his own loyalty,
but who can find a trustworthy man?(G)
7 The one who lives with integrity is righteous;(H)
his children[c] who come after him will be happy.(I)
8 A king sitting on a throne to judge
sifts out all evil with his eyes.(J)
9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure;
I am cleansed from my sin”?(K)
11 Even a young man is known by his actions—
if his behavior is pure and upright.(M)
12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye—
the Lord made them both.(N)
13 Don’t love sleep, or you will become poor;
open your eyes, and you’ll have enough to eat.(O)
14 “It’s worthless, it’s worthless!” the buyer says,
but after he is on his way, he gloats.
15 There is gold and a multitude of jewels,
but knowledgeable lips are a rare treasure.(P)
16 Take his garment,[e]
for he has put up security for a stranger;
get collateral if it is for foreigners.(Q)
17 Food gained by fraud is sweet to a man,(R)
but afterward his mouth is full of gravel.
21 An inheritance gained prematurely
will not be blessed ultimately.(Y)
24 A man’s steps are determined by the Lord,(AE)
so how can anyone understand his own way?
25 It is a trap for anyone to dedicate something rashly
and later to reconsider his vows.(AF)
28 Loyalty and faithfulness deliver a king;
through loyalty he maintains his throne.
29 The glory of young men is their strength,
and the splendor of old men is gray hair.(AJ)

but one who has insight draws them out.
6 Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find?(L)
10 Differing weights and differing measures—
the Lord detests them both.(S)
11 Even small children are known by their actions,
so is their conduct really pure(T) and upright?
12 Ears that hear and eyes that see—
the Lord has made them both.(U)
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;(V)
stay awake and you will have food to spare.
14 “It’s no good, it’s no good!” says the buyer—
then goes off and boasts about the purchase.
15 Gold there is, and rubies in abundance,
but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;
hold it in pledge(W) if it is done for an outsider.(X)
18 Plans are established by seeking advice;
so if you wage war, obtain guidance.(AA)
19 A gossip betrays a confidence;(AB)
so avoid anyone who talks too much.
20 If someone curses their father or mother,(AC)
their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness.(AD)
21 An inheritance claimed too soon
will not be blessed at the end.
22 Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!”(AE)
Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.(AF)
23 The Lord detests differing weights,
and dishonest scales do not please him.(AG)
24 A person’s steps are directed(AH) by the Lord.(AI)
How then can anyone understand their own way?(AJ)
25 It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows.(AK)
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked;
he drives the threshing wheel over them.(AL)
