La sabiduría y sus ventajas

Querido jovencito,
acepta mis enseñanzas;
valora mis mandamientos.
Trata de ser sabio
y actúa con inteligencia.
3-4 Pide entendimiento
y busca la sabiduría
como si buscaras plata
o un tesoro escondido.
Así llegarás a entender
lo que es obedecer a Dios
y conocerlo de verdad.
Sólo Dios puede hacerte sabio;
sólo Dios puede darte conocimiento.
Dios ayuda y protege
a quienes son honrados
y siempre hacen lo bueno.
Dios cuida y protege
a quienes siempre lo obedecen
y se preocupan por el débil.
Sólo él te hará entender
lo que es bueno y justo,
y lo que es siempre tratar
a todos por igual.
10 La sabiduría y el conocimiento
llenarán tu vida de alegría.
11 Piensa bien antes de actuar,
y estarás bien protegido;
12 el mal no te alcanzará
ni los malvados podrán contigo.
13 Esa gente deja de hacer el bien
para sólo hacer el mal;

con sus dulces mentiras;
de esa mujer que se olvida
de su promesa ante Dios.
18 El que se mete con ella
puede darse por muerto.
19 ¡El que se mete con ella
ya no vuelve a la vida!

20 Querido jovencito,
tú sigue por el buen camino
y haz siempre lo correcto,
21 porque sólo habitarán la tierra
y permanecerán en ella
los que siempre hagan lo bueno.
22 En cambio, esos malvados,
en los que no se puede confiar,
serán destruidos por completo.

The Value of Wisdom

My child, if you accept my words
    and treasure up my commandments within you,(A)
making your ear attentive to wisdom
    and inclining your heart to understanding,
if you indeed cry out for insight
    and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
    and search for it as for hidden treasures—(B)
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
    and find the knowledge of God.(C)
For the Lord gives wisdom;
    from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;(D)
he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
    he is a shield to those who walk blamelessly,(E)
guarding the paths of justice
    and preserving the way of his faithful ones.(F)
Then you will understand righteousness and justice
    and equity, every good path,(G)
10 for wisdom will come into your heart,
    and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11 prudence will watch over you,
    and understanding will guard you.
12 It will save you from the way of evil,
    from those who speak perversely,
13 who forsake the paths of uprightness
    to walk in the ways of darkness,(H)
14 who rejoice in doing evil
    and delight in the perverseness of evil,(I)
15 those whose paths are crooked
    and who are devious in their ways.(J)

16 You will be saved from the loose woman,[a]
    from the adulteress[b] with her smooth words,(K)
17 who forsakes the partner of her youth
    and forgets her sacred covenant,
18 for her way[c] leads down to death
    and her paths to the shades;(L)
19 those who go to her never come back,
    nor do they regain the paths of life.

20 Therefore walk in the way of the good,
    and keep to the paths of the just.
21 For the upright will abide in the land,
    and the innocent will remain in it,(M)
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the earth,
    and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.(N)

Moral Benefits of Wisdom

My son,(A) if you accept my words
    and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
    and applying your heart to understanding(B)
indeed, if you call out for insight(C)
    and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
    and search for it as for hidden treasure,(D)
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
    and find the knowledge of God.(E)
For the Lord gives wisdom;(F)
    from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.(G)
He holds success in store for the upright,
    he is a shield(H) to those whose walk is blameless,(I)
for he guards the course of the just
    and protects the way of his faithful ones.(J)

Then you will understand(K) what is right and just
    and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,(L)
    and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
    and understanding will guard you.(M)

12 Wisdom will save(N) you from the ways of wicked men,
    from men whose words are perverse,
13 who have left the straight paths
    to walk in dark ways,(O)
14 who delight in doing wrong
    and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,(P)
15 whose paths are crooked(Q)
    and who are devious in their ways.(R)

16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,(S)
    from the wayward woman with her seductive words,
17 who has left the partner of her youth
    and ignored the covenant she made before God.[a](T)
18 Surely her house leads down to death
    and her paths to the spirits of the dead.(U)
19 None who go to her return
    or attain the paths of life.(V)

20 Thus you will walk in the ways of the good
    and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,(W)
    and the blameless will remain in it;
22 but the wicked(X) will be cut off from the land,(Y)
    and the unfaithful will be torn from it.(Z)
