19 Es mejor ser pobre y honrado que necio y de labios mentirosos.
2 El afán sin conocimiento no es bueno; el que va de prisa puede equivocar el camino.
3 Por su propia necedad el hombre puede echar a perder su vida y luego echarle la culpa al Señor.
4 La riqueza trae muchos amigos, pero la pobreza los aleja.
5 El testigo falso no se escapará del castigo, tampoco el mentiroso se librará.
6 Muchos buscan quedar bien con el poderoso; todos son amigos del que es dadivoso.
7 Si los parientes del pobre lo aborrecen, con más razón sus amigos se alejan de él. Los llama con súplicas pero ellos ya se fueron.
8 El que adquiere sabiduría a sí mismo se ama; el que posee entendimiento prospera.
9 El testigo falso no se escapará del castigo, y el mentiroso será destruido.
10 No se ve bien que el necio viva con lujo o que el esclavo gobierne a los príncipes.
11 El buen juicio hace al hombre calmar su enojo y el pasar por alto la ofensa le trae honra.
12 La ira del rey es como el rugido del león, pero su aprobación es como el rocío sobre la hierba.
13 El hijo necio es la ruina de su padre, y la esposa pendenciera como gotera constante.
14 La casa y la riqueza se heredan de los padres, pero la esposa inteligente es un regalo del Señor.
15 El perezoso duerme profundamente, pero pasa hambre.
16 El que cumple los mandamientos conserva su vida; el que los desprecia muere.
17 Servir al pobre es hacerle un préstamo al Señor; Dios pagará esas buenas acciones.
18 Disciplina a tu hijo mientras hay esperanza; si no lo haces, le arruinarás la vida.
19 El hombre de mal carácter recibirá su castigo; si lo ayudas a librarse empeoraras las cosas.
20 Escucha el consejo y acepta la corrección, y llegarás a ser sabio.
21 El hombre puede hacer muchos planes, pero la decisión final es del Señor.
22 Lo que se espera del hombre es lealtad. Es mejor ser pobre que mentiroso.
23 La reverencia al Señor da vida, seguridad y nos libra de cualquier daño.
24 El perezoso no mueve ni un dedo para llevarse la comida a la boca.
25 Castiga al insolente y el imprudente aprenderá la lección; reprende al sabio, y será más sabio.
26 El que roba a su padre y echa a la calle a su madre es un hijo que trae vergüenza y desgracia.
27 Si dejas de atender a la corrección, hijo mío, le habrás dado la espalda al conocimiento.
28 El testigo corrupto se burla de la justicia, y de la boca del malvado brota maldad.
29 A los insolentes les espera el castigo, y a la espalda de los necios los azotes.

19 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than a fool whose lips are perverse.(A)
2 Desire without knowledge is not good—
how much more will hasty feet miss the way!(B)
4 Wealth attracts many friends,
but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.(E)
7 The poor are shunned by all their relatives—
how much more do their friends avoid them!(K)
Though the poor pursue them with pleading,
they are nowhere to be found.[a](L)
8 The one who gets wisdom loves life;
the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.(M)
9 A false witness will not go unpunished,
and whoever pours out lies will perish.(N)
10 It is not fitting for a fool(O) to live in luxury—
how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!(P)
11 A person’s wisdom yields patience;(Q)
it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
13 A foolish child is a father’s ruin,(U)
and a quarrelsome wife is like
the constant dripping of a leaky roof.(V)
15 Laziness brings on deep sleep,
and the shiftless go hungry.(Y)
16 Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life,
but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die.(Z)
17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,(AA)
and he will reward them for what they have done.(AB)
18 Discipline your children, for in that there is hope;
do not be a willing party to their death.(AC)
19 A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty;
rescue them, and you will have to do it again.
20 Listen to advice and accept discipline,(AD)
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.(AE)
21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.(AF)
22 What a person desires is unfailing love[b];
better to be poor than a liar.
23 The fear of the Lord leads to life;
then one rests content, untouched by trouble.(AG)
24 A sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he will not even bring it back to his mouth!(AH)
25 Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence;
rebuke the discerning,(AI) and they will gain knowledge.(AJ)
26 Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother(AK)
is a child who brings shame and disgrace.
27 Stop listening to instruction, my son,(AL)
and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 A corrupt witness mocks at justice,
and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.(AM)
29 Penalties are prepared for mockers,
and beatings for the backs of fools.(AN)
