Esortazione a fuggire l'immoralità
5 (A)Figlio mio, sta' attento alla mia
saggezza,
inclina l'orecchio alla mia intelligenza,
2 affinché tu conservi l'accorgimento,
e le tue labbra custodiscano la scienza.
3 é le labbra dell'adultera stillano miele,
la sua bocca è piú morbida dell'olio;
4 ma la fine a cui conduce[a] è amara
come l’assenzio,
è affilata come una spada a doppio
taglio.
5 I suoi piedi scendono alla morte,
i suoi passi portano al *soggiorno dei
morti.
6 Lungi dal prendere il sentiero della vita,
le sue vie sono sbagliate, e non sa dove va.
7 Or dunque, figlioli, ascoltatemi,
e non vi allontanate dalle parole della
mia bocca.
8 Tieni lontana da lei la tua via
e non ti avvicinare alla porta della sua casa,
9 per non dare ad altri il fiore della tua gioventú,
e i tuoi anni all’uomo crudele;
10 perché degli stranieri non siano
saziati dei tuoi beni,
e le tue fatiche non vadano in casa
d'estranei;
11 perché tu non abbia a gemere quando verrà la tua fine,
quando la tua carne e il tuo corpo
saranno consumati;
12 e tu non dica: «Come ho fatto
a odiare la correzione,
e come ha potuto il mio cuore
disprezzare la riprensione?
13 Come ho fatto a non ascoltare
la voce di chi m'insegnava,
e a non porgere l'orecchio a chi
m'istruiva?
14 Poco mancò che non mi trovassi
immerso in ogni male,
in mezzo all'assemblea e alla
comunità».
15 Bevi l'acqua della tua cisterna,
l'acqua viva del tuo pozzo.
16 Le tue fonti devono forse spargersi al di fuori?
I tuoi ruscelli devono forse scorrere per le strade?
17 Siano per te solo,
e non per gli stranieri con te.
18 Sia benedetta la tua fonte,
e trova gioia nella sposa della tua
gioventú.
19 Cerva d'amore, capriola di grazia,
le sue carezze t'inebrino in ogni tempo,
e sii sempre rapito nell'affetto suo.
20 Perché, figlio mio, ti innamoreresti di un'estranea,
e abbracceresti il seno della donna altrui?
21 Infatti le vie dell'uomo stanno
davanti agli occhi del Signore,
egli osserva tutti i suoi sentieri.
22 L'empio sarà preso nelle proprie
*iniquità,
tenuto stretto dalle funi del suo peccato.
23 Egli morirà per mancanza
di correzione,
andrà vacillando per la grandezza della sua follia.

5 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
