31 (A)Parole del re Lemuel. Massime che sua madre gli insegnò.
2 Che ti dirò, figlio mio? Che ti dirò, figlio del mio grembo? Che ti dirò, o figlio dei miei voti?
3 Non dare il tuo vigore alle donne, non frequentare quelle che mandano in rovina i re.
4 Non si addice ai re, Lemuel, non si addice ai re bere del vino, né ai prìncipi desiderare bevande alcoliche,
5 ché a volte, dopo aver bevuto, non dimentichino la legge e calpestino così i diritti di tutti i deboli.
6 Date bevande alcoliche a chi sta per perire e del vino a chi ha il cuore amareggiato;
7 perché bevano, dimentichino la loro miseria e non si ricordino più dei loro travagli.
8 Apri la bocca in favore del muto, per sostenere la causa di tutti gli infelici;
9 apri la bocca, giudica con giustizia, fa’ ragione al misero e al bisognoso.
Elogio della donna virtuosa
10 (B)Una donna virtuosa chi la troverà? Il suo pregio sorpassa di molto quello delle perle.
11 Il cuore di suo marito confida in lei, ed egli non mancherà mai di provviste.
12 Lei gli fa del bene, e non del male, tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 Si procura lana e lino e lavora gioiosa con le proprie mani.
14 È simile alle navi dei mercanti: fa venire il suo cibo da lontano.
15 Si alza quando ancora è notte, distribuisce il cibo alla famiglia e il compito alle sue serve.
16 Posa gli occhi sopra un campo e lo acquista; con il guadagno delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 Si cinge di forza i fianchi e fa robuste le sue braccia.
18 Sente che il suo lavoro rende bene; la sua lucerna non si spegne la notte.
19 Mette la mano alla rocca e le sue dita maneggiano il fuso.
20 Tende le palme al misero e porge le mani al bisognoso.
21 Non teme la neve per la sua famiglia, perché tutta la sua famiglia è vestita di lana rossa.
22 Si fa dei tappeti, ha vesti di lino finissimo e di porpora.
23 Suo marito è rispettato alle porte della città, quando si siede tra gli anziani del paese.
24 Fa delle tuniche e le vende, e delle cinture che dà al mercante[a].
25 Forza e dignità sono il suo manto, e lei non teme l’avvenire.
26 Apre la bocca con saggezza e ha sulla lingua insegnamenti di bontà.
27 Sorveglia l’andamento della sua casa e non mangia il pane di pigrizia.
28 I suoi figli si alzano e la proclamano beata, e suo marito la loda, dicendo:
29 «Molte donne si sono comportate da virtuose, ma tu le superi tutte!»
30 La grazia è ingannevole e la bellezza è cosa vana; ma la donna che teme il Signore è quella che sarà lodata.
31 Datele del frutto delle sue mani, e le opere sue la lodino alle porte della città.

31 利慕伊勒王的言语，是他母亲教训他的真言。
2 我的儿啊，我腹中生的儿啊，我许愿得的儿啊，我当怎样教训你呢？ 3 不要将你的精力给妇女，也不要有败坏君王的行为。 4 利慕伊勒啊，君王喝酒，君王喝酒不相宜，王子说“浓酒在哪里”也不相宜。 5 恐怕喝了就忘记律例，颠倒一切困苦人的是非。 6 可以把浓酒给将亡的人喝，把清酒给苦心的人喝。 7 让他喝了，就忘记他的贫穷，不再记念他的苦楚。 8 你当为哑巴[a]开口，为一切孤独的申冤。 9 你当开口按公义判断，为困苦和穷乏的辨屈。
论贤妇
10 才德的妇人谁能得着呢？她的价值胜过珍珠。 11 她丈夫心里倚靠她，必不缺少利益。 12 她一生使丈夫有益无损。 13 她寻找羊绒和麻，甘心用手做工。 14 她好像商船，从远方运粮来。 15 未到黎明她就起来，把食物分给家中的人，将当做的工分派婢女。 16 她想得田地就买来，用手所得之利栽种葡萄园。 17 她以能力束腰，使膀臂有力。 18 她觉得所经营的有利，她的灯终夜不灭。 19 她手拿捻线竿，手把纺线车。 20 她张手周济困苦人，伸手帮补穷乏人。 21 她不因下雪为家里的人担心，因为全家都穿着朱红衣服。 22 她为自己制作绣花毯子，她的衣服是细麻和紫色布做的。 23 她丈夫在城门口与本地的长老同坐，为众人所认识。 24 她做细麻布衣裳出卖，又将腰带卖于商家。 25 能力和威仪是她的衣服，她想到日后的景况就喜笑。 26 她开口就发智慧，她舌上有仁慈的法则。 27 她观察家务，并不吃闲饭。 28 她的儿女起来称她有福，她的丈夫也称赞她， 29 说：“才德的女子很多，唯独你超过一切。” 30 艳丽是虚假的，美容是虚浮的，唯敬畏耶和华的妇女必得称赞。 31 愿她享受操作所得的，愿她的工作在城门口荣耀她。

Sayings of King Lemuel
31 The sayings(A) of King Lemuel—an inspired utterance his mother taught him.
2 Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb!
Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!(B)
3 Do not spend your strength[a] on women,
your vigor on those who ruin kings.(C)
4 It is not for kings, Lemuel—
it is not for kings to drink wine,(D)
not for rulers to crave beer,
5 lest they drink(E) and forget what has been decreed,(F)
and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
6 Let beer be for those who are perishing,
wine(G) for those who are in anguish!
7 Let them drink(H) and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.
8 Speak(I) up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
9 Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.(J)
Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character
10 [b]A wife of noble character(K) who can find?(L)
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband(M) has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.(N)
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.(O)
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.(P)
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders(Q) of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.(R)
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise(S) at the city gate.
