Ìfẹ́kúfẹ̀ẹ́ ohun àdídùn
23 Nígbà tí ìwọ bá jókòó láti bá ìjòyè jẹun,
kíyèsi ohun tí ó wà níwájú rẹ gidigidi.
2 Ìwọ a sì fi ọ̀bẹ lé ara rẹ ní ọ̀fun,
bí ìwọ bá jẹ́ òkúndùn ènìyàn.
3 Má ṣe fẹ́ oúnjẹ dídùn rẹ̀:
nítorí pé oúnjẹ ẹ̀tàn ni.
4 Má ṣe ṣe làálàá láti lọ́rọ̀:
ṣíwọ́ kúrò nínú ọgbọ́n ara rẹ.
5 Ìwọ ó ha fi ojú rẹ lépa ohun tí kò sí?
Nítorí tí ọ̀rọ̀ hu ìyẹ́ apá fún ara rẹ̀,
ó sì ń fò bí idì ní ojú ọ̀run.
6 Má ṣe jẹ oúnjẹ ẹni tí ó háwọ́,
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kí o má sì ṣe fẹ́ oúnjẹ dídùn rẹ̀.
7 Nítorí pé bí ẹni tí ń ṣírò ní ọkàn rẹ̀, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ó rí:
“Máa jẹ, kí o sì máa mu,” ni ó ń wí fún ọ;
ṣùgbọ́n ọkàn rẹ̀ kò pẹ̀lú rẹ.
8 Òkèlè tí ìwọ jẹ ni ìwọ ó pọ̀ jáde,
ìwọ a sì sọ ọ̀rọ̀ dídùn rẹ̀ nù.
9 Má ṣe sọ̀rọ̀ ní etí aṣiwèrè;
nítorí tí yóò gan ọgbọ́n ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ.
10 Má ṣe ṣí ààlà àtijọ́ kúrò;
má sì ṣe bọ́ sínú oko aláìní baba.
11 Nítorí pé Olùràpadà wọn lágbára;
yóò gba ìjà wọn jà sí ọ.
12 Fi àyà sí ẹ̀kọ́,
àti etí rẹ sí ọ̀rọ̀-ìmọ̀.
13 Má ṣe fa ọwọ́ ìbáwí sẹ́yìn kúrò lára ọmọdé,
nítorí pé bí ìwọ bá fi pàṣán nà án, òun kì yóò kú.
14 Bí ìwọ fi pàṣán nà án,
ìwọ ó sì gbà ọkàn rẹ̀ là kúrò ní ọ̀run àpáàdì.
Ọ̀rọ̀ ọgbọ́n fún ọmọ rere
15 Ọmọ mi, bí ọkàn rẹ bá gbọ́n,
ọkàn mi yóò yọ̀, àní èmi pẹ̀lú.
16 Inú mi yóò sì dùn nígbà tí ètè rẹ̀ bá ń sọ̀rọ̀ títọ́.
17 Má ṣe jẹ́ kí àyà rẹ ó ṣe ìlara sí àwọn ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀,
ṣùgbọ́n kí ìwọ ó wà ní ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa,
ní ọjọ́ gbogbo.
18 Nítorí pé ìgbẹ̀yìn ń bẹ nítòótọ́;
ìrètí rẹ̀ kì yóò sì gé kúrò.
19 Gbọ́, ìwọ ọmọ mi, kí o sì gbọ́n,
kí o sì máa tọ́ àyà rẹ sí ọ̀nà títọ́.
20 Má ṣe wà nínú àwọn ọ̀mùtí;
àti àwọn wọ̀bìà alájẹkì ọ̀jẹun;
21 Nítorí pé ọ̀mùtí àti ọ̀jẹun ni yóò di tálákà;
ìmúni-tòògbé ní sì ń fi àkísà wọ ọkùnrin láṣọ.
22 Fetí sí ti baba rẹ tí ó bí ọ,
má sì ṣe gan ìyá rẹ, nígbà tí o bá gbó
23 Ra òtítọ́, kí o má sì ṣe tà á;
ra ọgbọ́n pẹ̀lú àti ẹ̀kọ́ àti òye.
24 Baba olódodo ni yóò yọ̀ gidigidi:
ẹni tí ó sì bí ọmọ ọlọ́gbọ́n,
yóò ní ayọ̀ nínú rẹ̀.
25 Jẹ́ kí baba rẹ àti ìyá rẹ ó yọ̀,
sì jẹ́ kí inú ẹni tí ó bí ọ dùn.
26 Ọmọ mi, fi àyà rẹ fún mi,
kí o sì jẹ́ kí ojú rẹ ní inú dídùn sí ọ̀nà mi.
27 Nítorí pé panṣágà obìnrin ọ̀gbun jíjìn ni;
àti àjèjì obìnrin kànga híhá ni.
28 Òun á sì ba ní bùba bí olè,
a sì sọ àwọn olùrékọjá di púpọ̀ nínú àwọn ènìyàn.
29 Ta ni ó ni òsì? Ta ni ó ni ìbànújẹ́?
Ta ni ó ni ìjà? Ta ni ó ni asọ̀? Ta ni ó ni ọgbẹ́ láìnídìí?
30 Àwọn tí ó dúró pẹ́ níbi ọtí wáìnì;
àwọn tí ń lọ láti dán ọtí wáìnì àdàlú wò.
31 Ìwọ má ṣe wò ọtí wáìnì nígbà tí ó pọ́n,
nígbà tí ó bá ń fi àwọ̀ rẹ̀ hàn nínú ago,
tí a gbé e mì, tí ó ń dùn.
32 Níkẹyìn òun á bu ni ṣán bí ejò,
a sì bunijẹ bí i paramọ́lẹ̀.
33 Ojú rẹ yóò wò àwọn àjèjì obìnrin,
àyà rẹ yóò sì sọ̀rọ̀ àyídáyidà.
34 Nítòótọ́, ìwọ ó dàbí ẹni tí ó dùbúlẹ̀ ní àárín Òkun,
tàbí ẹni tí ó dùbúlẹ̀ lókè-ọkọ̀.
35 Ìwọ ó sì wí pé, “Wọ́n lù mí; kò dùn mí;
wọ́n lù mí, èmi kò sì mọ̀:
nígbà wo ni èmi ó jí?
Èmi ó tún máa wá òmíràn láti mu.”

23 Quando siedi a mangiare con un potente,
considera bene che cosa hai davanti;
2 mettiti un coltello alla gola,
se hai molto appetito.
3 Non desiderare le sue ghiottonerie,
sono un cibo fallace.
4 Non affannarti per arricchire,
rinunzia a un simile pensiero;
5 appena vi fai volare gli occhi sopra,
essa gia non è più:
perché mette ali come aquila
e vola verso il cielo.
6 Non mangiare il pane di chi ha l'occhio cattivo
e non desiderare le sue ghiottonerie,
7 perché come chi calcola fra di sé, così è costui;
ti dirà: «Mangia e bevi»,
ma il suo cuore non è con te.
8 Il boccone che hai mangiato rigetterai
e avrai sprecato le tue parole gentili.
9 Non parlare agli orecchi di uno stolto,
perché egli disprezzerà le tue sagge parole.
10 Non spostare il confine antico,
e non invadere il campo degli orfani,
11 perché il loro vendicatore è forte,
egli difenderà la loro causa contro di te.
12 Piega il cuore alla correzione
e l'orecchio ai discorsi sapienti.
13 Non risparmiare al giovane la correzione,
anche se tu lo batti con la verga, non morirà;
14 anzi, se lo batti con la verga,
lo salverai dagli inferi.
15 Figlio mio, se il tuo cuore sarà saggio,
anche il mio cuore gioirà.
16 Esulteranno le mie viscere,
quando le tue labbra diranno parole rette.
17 Il tuo cuore non invidi i peccatori,
ma resti sempre nel timore del Signore,
18 perché così avrai un avvenire
e la tua speranza non sarà delusa.
19 Ascolta, figlio mio, e sii saggio
e indirizza il cuore per la via retta.
20 Non essere fra quelli che s'inebriano di vino,
né fra coloro che son ghiotti di carne,
21 perché l'ubriacone e il ghiottone impoveriranno
e il dormiglione si vestirà di stracci.
22 Ascolta tuo padre che ti ha generato,
non disprezzare tua madre quando è vecchia.
23 Acquista il vero bene e non cederlo,
la sapienza, l'istruzione e l'intelligenza.
24 Il padre del giusto gioirà pienamente
e chi ha generato un saggio se ne compiacerà.
25 Gioisca tuo padre e tua madre
e si rallegri colei che ti ha generato.
26 Fà bene attenzione a me, figlio mio,
e tieni fisso lo sguardo ai miei consigli:
27 una fossa profonda è la prostituta,
e un pozzo stretto la straniera.
28 Essa si apposta come un ladro
e aumenta fra gli uomini il numero dei perfidi.
29 Per chi i guai? Per chi i lamenti?
Per chi i litigi? Per chi i gemiti?
A chi le percosse per futili motivi?
A chi gli occhi rossi?
30 Per quelli che si perdono dietro al vino
e vanno a gustare vino puro.
31 Non guardare il vino quando rosseggia,
quando scintilla nella coppa
e scende giù piano piano;
32 finirà con il morderti come un serpente
e pungerti come una vipera.
33 Allora i tuoi occhi vedranno cose strane
e la tua mente dirà cose sconnesse.
34 Ti parrà di giacere in alto mare
o di dormire in cima all'albero maestro.
35 «Mi hanno picchiato, ma non sento male.
Mi hanno bastonato, ma non me ne sono accorto.
Quando mi sveglierò? Ne chiederò dell'altro».

23 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.
18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
