19 Meglio un povero che cammina nella sua integrità,
che chi è perverso di labbra e anche
stolto.
2 Lo zelo senza conoscenza non è cosa buona;
chi cammina in fretta sbaglia strada.
3 La stoltezza dell'uomo ne perverte
la via,
ma il suo cuore si irrita contro
il Signore.
4 Le ricchezze procurano gran numero di amici,
ma il povero è abbandonato anche dal suo compagno.
5 Il falso testimone non rimarrà
impunito,
chi spaccia menzogne non avrà scampo.
6 Molti corteggiano l'uomo generoso,
tutti sono amici dell'uomo che offre
regali.
7 Tutti i fratelli del povero l'odiano;
quanto piú gli amici suoi si
allontaneranno da lui!
Egli li supplica con parole, ma già sono scomparsi.
8 Chi acquista senno ama se stesso;
e chi serba con cura la prudenza troverà del bene.
9 Il falso testimone non rimarrà
impunito,
e chi spaccia menzogne perirà.
10 Vivere nel lusso non s'addice allo
stolto;
quanto meno si addice allo schiavo
dominare sui príncipi!
11 Il senno rende l'uomo lento all'ira,
ed egli considera un suo onore passare sopra le offese.
12 L'ira del re è come il ruggito di
un leone,
ma il suo favore è come rugiada
sull'erba.
13 Un figlio stolto è una grande
sciagura per suo padre,
e le risse di una moglie sono
il gocciolare continuo di un tetto.
14 Casa e ricchezze sono un'eredità dei padri,
ma una moglie giudiziosa è un dono
del Signore.
15 La pigrizia fa cadere nel torpore,
e la persona indolente patirà la fame.
16 Chi osserva il precetto preserva
la sua vita,
ma chi non si dà pensiero della propria condotta morrà.
17 Chi ha pietà del povero presta
al Signore,
che gli contraccambierà l'opera buona.
18 Castiga tuo figlio, mentre c'è ancora speranza,
ma non lasciarti andare sino a farlo
morire.
19 L'uomo dalla collera violenta deve
essere punito;
perché, se lo liberi, dovrai tornare
daccapo.
20 Ascolta il consiglio e ricevi
l'istruzione,
affinché tu diventi saggio per il resto
della vita.
21 Ci sono molti disegni nel cuore
dell'uomo,
ma il piano del Signore è quello che
sussiste.
22 Ciò che rende caro l'uomo è
la bontà,
e un povero vale piú di un bugiardo.
23 Il timore del Signore conduce alla vita;
chi l'ha si sazia, e passa la notte senza essere visitato dal male.
24 Il pigro tuffa la mano nel piatto
e non fa neppure tanto da portarla alla bocca.
25 Percuoti il beffardo, e l'ingenuo
diventerà prudente;
riprendi l'intelligente, e imparerà
la scienza.
26 Il figlio che fa vergogna e disonore,
rovina suo padre e scaccia sua madre.
27 Cessa, figlio mio, d'ascoltare
l'istruzione,
se ti vuoi allontanare dalle parole della scienza.
28 Il testimone *iniquo si burla della
giustizia,
e la bocca degli empi trangugia
l'iniquità.
29 I giudici sono stabiliti per i beffardi,
e le percosse per il dorso degli stolti.

19 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than a fool whose lips are perverse.(A)
2 Desire without knowledge is not good—
how much more will hasty feet miss the way!(B)
4 Wealth attracts many friends,
but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.(E)
7 The poor are shunned by all their relatives—
how much more do their friends avoid them!(K)
Though the poor pursue them with pleading,
they are nowhere to be found.[a](L)
8 The one who gets wisdom loves life;
the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.(M)
9 A false witness will not go unpunished,
and whoever pours out lies will perish.(N)
10 It is not fitting for a fool(O) to live in luxury—
how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!(P)
11 A person’s wisdom yields patience;(Q)
it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
13 A foolish child is a father’s ruin,(U)
and a quarrelsome wife is like
the constant dripping of a leaky roof.(V)
15 Laziness brings on deep sleep,
and the shiftless go hungry.(Y)
16 Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life,
but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die.(Z)
17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,(AA)
and he will reward them for what they have done.(AB)
18 Discipline your children, for in that there is hope;
do not be a willing party to their death.(AC)
19 A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty;
rescue them, and you will have to do it again.
20 Listen to advice and accept discipline,(AD)
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.(AE)
21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.(AF)
22 What a person desires is unfailing love[b];
better to be poor than a liar.
23 The fear of the Lord leads to life;
then one rests content, untouched by trouble.(AG)
24 A sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he will not even bring it back to his mouth!(AH)
25 Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence;
rebuke the discerning,(AI) and they will gain knowledge.(AJ)
26 Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother(AK)
is a child who brings shame and disgrace.
27 Stop listening to instruction, my son,(AL)
and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 A corrupt witness mocks at justice,
and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.(AM)
29 Penalties are prepared for mockers,
and beatings for the backs of fools.(AN)

19 Bättre är en fattig man som vandrar i ostrafflighet än en man som har vrånga läppar och därtill är en dåre.
2 Ett obetänksamt sinne, redan det är illa; och den som är snar på foten, han stiger miste.
3 En människas eget oförnuft kommer henne på fall, och dock är det på HERREN som hennes hjärta vredgas
4 Gods skaffar många vänner, men den arme bliver övergiven av sin vän.
5 Ett falskt vittne bliver icke ostraffat, och den som främjar lögn, han kommer icke undan.
6 Många söka en furstes ynnest, och alla äro vänner till den givmilde.
7 Den fattige är hatad av alla sina fränder, ännu längre draga sig hans vänner bort ifrån honom; han far efter löften som äro ett intet.
8 Den som förvärvar förstånd har sitt liv kärt; den som tager vara på insikt, han finner lycka
9 Ett falskt vittne bliver icke ostraffat, och den som främjar lögn, han skall förgås.
10 Det höves icke dåren att hava goda dagar, mycket mindre en träl att råda över furstar.
11 Förstånd gör en människa tålmodig, och det är hennes ära att tillgiva vad någon har brutit.
12 En konungs vrede är såsom ett ungt lejons rytande, hans nåd är såsom dagg på gräset.
13 En dåraktig son är sin faders fördärv, och en kvinnas trätor äro ett oavlåtligt takdropp.
14 Gård och gods får man i arv från sina fäder, men en förståndig hustru är en gåva från HERREN.
15 Lättja försänker i dåsighet, och den håglöse får lida hunger.
16 Den som håller budet får behålla sitt liv; den som ej aktar på sin vandel han varder dödad.
17 Den som förbarmar sig över den arme, han lånar åt HERREN och får vedergällning av honom för vad gott han har gjort.
18 Tukta din son, medan något hopp är, och åtrå icke att vålla hans död.
19 Den som förgår sig i vrede, han må plikta därför, ty om du vill ställa till rätta, så gör du det allenast värre.
20 Hör råd och tag emot tuktan, på det att du för framtiden må bliva vis.
21 Många planer har en man i sitt hjärta, men HERRENS råd, det bliver beståndande.
22 Efter en människas goda vilja räknas hennes barmhärtighet, och en fattig man är bättre än en som ljuger.
23 HERRENS fruktan för till liv; så får man vila mätt och hemsökes icke av något ont.
24 Den late sticker sin hand i fatet, men gitter icke föra den åter till munnen.
25 Slår man bespottaren, så bliver den fåkunnige klok; och tillrättavisar man den förståndige, så vinner han kunskap.
26 Den som övar våld mot sin fader eller driver bort sin moder, han är en vanartig och skändlig son.
27 Min son, om du icke vill höra tuktan, så far du vilse från de ord som giva kunskap.
28 Ett ont vittne bespottar vad rätt är, och de ogudaktigas mun är glupsk efter orätt.
29 Straffdomar ligga redo för bespottarna och slag för dårarnas rygg.

19 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
