13 Il figlio saggio ascolta l’istruzione di suo padre, ma il beffardo non ascolta rimproveri.
2 Per il frutto delle sue labbra uno gode del bene, ma il desiderio dei perfidi è la violenza.
3 Chi sorveglia la sua bocca preserva la propria vita; chi apre troppo le labbra va incontro alla rovina.
4 Il pigro desidera e non ha nulla, ma l’operoso sarà pienamente soddisfatto.
5 Il giusto odia la menzogna, ma l’empio getta sugli altri discredito e vergogna.
6 La giustizia protegge chi cammina nell’integrità, ma l’empietà abbatte il peccatore.
7 C’è chi fa il ricco e non ha nulla, e c’è chi fa il povero e ha grandi beni.
8 La ricchezza di un uomo serve come riscatto della sua vita, ma il povero non ode mai minacce.
9 La luce dei giusti è gaia, ma la lampada degli empi si spegne.
10 Dall’orgoglio non viene che contesa, ma la saggezza è con chi dà retta ai consigli.
11 La ricchezza male acquistata va diminuendo, ma chi accumula a poco a poco, l’aumenta.
12 La speranza insoddisfatta fa languire il cuore, ma il desiderio realizzato è un albero di vita.
13 Chi disprezza la parola si costituisce, di fronte ad essa, debitore, ma chi rispetta il comandamento sarà ricompensato.
14 L’insegnamento del saggio è una fonte di vita per schivare le insidie della morte.
15 Buon senno procura favore, ma la via dei perfidi è senza fine.
16 Ogni uomo accorto agisce con conoscenza, ma l’insensato fa sfoggio di follia.
17 Il messaggero malvagio cade in sciagure, ma l’ambasciatore fedele porta guarigione.
18 Miseria e vergogna a chi rifiuta la correzione, ma chi dà retta alla riprensione è onorato.
19 Il desiderio adempiuto è dolce all’anima, ma agli insensati fa orrore evitare il male.
20 Chi va con i saggi diventa saggio, ma il compagno degli insensati diventa cattivo.
21 Il male perseguita i peccatori, ma il giusto è ricompensato con il bene.
22 L’uomo buono lascia un’eredità ai figli dei suoi figli, ma la ricchezza del peccatore è riservata al giusto.
23 Il campo lavorato dal povero dà cibo in abbondanza, ma c’è chi perisce per mancanza di equità.
24 Chi risparmia la verga odia suo figlio, ma chi lo ama lo corregge per tempo.
25 Il giusto ha di che mangiare a sazietà, ma il ventre degli empi manca di cibo.

lo spavaldo non ascolta il rimprovero.
2 Del frutto della sua bocca
l'uomo mangia ciò che è buono;
l'appetito dei perfidi si soddisfa con i soprusi.
3 Chi sorveglia la sua bocca conserva la vita,
chi apre troppo le labbra incontra la rovina.
4 Il pigro brama, ma non c'è nulla per il suo appetito;
l'appetito dei diligenti sarà soddisfatto.
5 Il giusto odia la parola falsa,
l'empio calunnia e disonora.
6 La giustizia custodisce chi ha una condotta integra,
il peccato manda in rovina l'empio.
7 C'è chi fa il ricco e non ha nulla;
c'è chi fa il povero e ha molti beni.
8 Riscatto della vita d'un uomo è la sua ricchezza,
ma il povero non si accorge della minaccia.
9 La luce dei giusti allieta,
la lucerna degli empi si spegne.
10 L'insolenza provoca soltanto contese,
la sapienza si trova presso coloro che prendono consiglio.
11 Le ricchezze accumulate in fretta diminuiscono,
chi le raduna a poco a poco le accresce.
12 Un'attesa troppo prolungata fa male al cuore,
un desiderio soddisfatto è albero di vita.
13 Chi disprezza la parola si rovinerà,
chi rispetta un comando ne avrà premio.
14 L'insegnamento del saggio è fonte di vita
per evitare i lacci della morte.
15 Un aspetto buono procura favore,
ma il contegno dei perfidi è rude.
16 L'accorto agisce sempre con riflessione,
lo stolto mette in mostra la stoltezza.
17 Un cattivo messaggero causa sciagure,
un inviato fedele apporta salute.
18 Povertà e ignominia a chi rifiuta l'istruzione,
chi tien conto del rimprovero sarà onorato.
19 Desiderio soddisfatto è una dolcezza al cuore,
ma è abominio per gli stolti staccarsi dal male.
20 Và con i saggi e saggio diventerai,
chi pratica gli stolti ne subirà danno.
21 La sventura perseguita i peccatori,
il benessere ripagherà i giusti.
22 L'uomo dabbene lascia eredi i nipoti,
la proprietà del peccatore è riservata al giusto.
23 Il potente distrugge il podere dei poveri
e c'è chi è eliminato senza processo.
24 Chi risparmia il bastone odia suo figlio,
chi lo ama è pronto a correggerlo.
25 Il giusto mangia a sazietà,
ma il ventre degli empi soffre la fame.

13 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

13 A wise son listens to[a] the discipline of his father,
but a mocker doesn’t listen to correction.
2 People eat well from the fruit of their words,
but the treacherous have an appetite only for violence.
3 People who watch their mouths guard their lives,
but those who open their lips are ruined.
4 The lazy have strong desires but receive nothing;
the appetite of the diligent is satisfied.
5 The righteous hate false words,
but the wicked create disgust and scorn.
6 Righteousness guards the innocent on the path,
but wickedness misleads sinners.
7 Some pretend to be rich but have nothing,
while others pretend to be poor, but have great riches.
8 Wealth can ransom a person’s life,
but the poor don’t even receive threats.
9 The light of the righteous rejoices,
but the lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 The empty-headed cause conflict out of pride;
those who take advice are wise.
11 Riches gotten quickly[b] will dwindle,
but those who acquire them gradually become wealthy.
12 Hope delayed makes the heart sick;
longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
13 Trouble will come on those who despise a word,
but those who respect the commandment will be rewarded.
14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,
turning a person away from deathtraps.
15 Good insight brings favor,
but the way of the faithless is their ruin.[c]
16 The prudent all act intelligently,
but fools display their stupidity.
17 Wicked messengers fall into trouble,
but a reliable one brings healing.
18 Poverty and shame come to those who don’t care about instruction;
honor belongs to those who heed correction.
19 A desire fulfilled is pleasant,
but fools find deviating from evil disgusting.
20 Walk with wise people and become wise;
befriend fools and get in trouble.
21 Trouble pursues sinners,
but good things reward the righteous.
22 Good people leave their grandchildren an inheritance,
but the wealth of sinners is stored up for the righteous.
23 A poor person’s land might produce much food,
but it is unjustly swept away.
24 Those who withhold the rod hate their children,
but the one who loves them applies discipline.
25 The righteous eat their fill,
but the wicked have empty stomachs.
