6 Mon fils, si tu as cautionné ton prochain, Si tu t'es engagé pour autrui,
2 Si tu es enlacé par les paroles de ta bouche, Si tu es pris par les paroles de ta bouche,
3 Fais donc ceci, mon fils, dégage-toi, Puisque tu es tombé au pouvoir de ton prochain; Va, prosterne-toi, et fais des instances auprès de lui;
4 Ne donne ni sommeil à tes yeux, Ni assoupissement à tes paupières;
5 Dégage-toi comme la gazelle de la main du chasseur, Comme l'oiseau de la main de l'oiseleur.
6 Va vers la fourmi, paresseux; Considère ses voies, et deviens sage.
7 Elle n'a ni chef, Ni inspecteur, ni maître;
8 Elle prépare en été sa nourriture, Elle amasse pendant la moisson de quoi manger.
9 Paresseux, jusqu'à quand seras-tu couché? Quand te lèveras-tu de ton sommeil?
10 Un peu de sommeil, un peu d'assoupissement, Un peu croiser les mains pour dormir!...
11 Et la pauvreté te surprendra, comme un rôdeur, Et la disette, comme un homme en armes.
12 L'homme pervers, l'homme inique, Marche la fausseté dans la bouche;
13 Il cligne des yeux, parle du pied, Fait des signes avec les doigts;
14 La perversité est dans son coeur, Il médite le mal en tout temps, Il excite des querelles.
15 Aussi sa ruine arrivera-t-elle subitement; Il sera brisé tout d'un coup, et sans remède.
16 Il y a six choses que hait l'Éternel, Et même sept qu'il a en horreur;
17 Les yeux hautains, la langue menteuse, Les mains qui répandent le sang innocent,
18 Le coeur qui médite des projets iniques, Les pieds qui se hâtent de courir au mal,
19 Le faux témoin qui dit des mensonges, Et celui qui excite des querelles entre frères.
20 Mon fils, garde les préceptes de ton père, Et ne rejette pas l'enseignement de ta mère.
21 Lie-les constamment sur ton coeur, Attache-les à ton cou.
22 Ils te dirigeront dans ta marche, Ils te garderont sur ta couche, Ils te parleront à ton réveil.
23 Car le précepte est une lampe, et l'enseignement une lumière, Et les avertissements de la correction sont le chemin de la vie:
24 Ils te préserveront de la femme corrompue, De la langue doucereuse de l'étrangère.
25 Ne la convoite pas dans ton coeur pour sa beauté, Et ne te laisse pas séduire par ses paupières.
26 Car pour la femme prostituée on se réduit à un morceau de pain, Et la femme mariée tend un piège à la vie précieuse.
27 Quelqu'un mettra-t-il du feu dans son sein, Sans que ses vêtements s'enflamment?
28 Quelqu'un marchera-t-il sur des charbons ardents, Sans que ses pieds soient brûlés?
29 Il en est de même pour celui qui va vers la femme de son prochain: Quiconque la touche ne restera pas impuni.
30 On ne tient pas pour innocent le voleur qui dérobe Pour satisfaire son appétit, quand il a faim;
31 Si on le trouve, il fera une restitution au septuple, Il donnera tout ce qu'il a dans sa maison.
32 Mais celui qui commet un adultère avec une femme est dépourvu de sens, Celui qui veut se perdre agit de la sorte;
33 Il n'aura que plaie et ignominie, Et son opprobre ne s'effacera point.
34 Car la jalousie met un homme en fureur, Et il est sans pitié au jour de la vengeance;
35 Il n'a égard à aucune rançon, Et il est inflexible, quand même tu multiplierais les dons.

6 我 兒 ， 你 若 為 朋 友 作 保 ， 替 外 人 擊 掌 ，
2 你 就 被 口 中 的 話 語 纏 住 ， 被 嘴 裡 的 言 語 捉 住 。
3 我 兒 ， 你 既 落 在 朋 友 手 中 ， 就 當 這 樣 行 才 可 救 自 己 ： 你 要 自 卑 ， 去 懇 求 你 的 朋 友 。
4 不 要 容 你 的 眼 睛 睡 覺 ； 不 要 容 你 的 眼 皮 打 盹 。
5 要 救 自 己 ， 如 鹿 脫 離 獵 戶 的 手 ， 如 鳥 脫 離 捕 鳥 人 的 手 。
6 懶 惰 人 哪 ， 你 去 察 看 螞 蟻 的 動 作 就 可 得 智 慧 。
7 螞 蟻 沒 有 元 帥 ， 沒 有 官 長 ， 沒 有 君 王 ，
8 尚 且 在 夏 天 預 備 食 物 ， 在 收 割 時 聚 斂 糧 食 。
9 懶 惰 人 哪 ， 你 要 睡 到 幾 時 呢 ？ 你 何 時 睡 醒 呢 ？
10 再 睡 片 時 ， 打 盹 片 時 ， 抱 著 手 躺 臥 片 時 ，
11 你 的 貧 窮 就 必 如 強 盜 速 來 ， 你 的 缺 乏 彷 彿 拿 兵 器 的 人 來 到 。
12 無 賴 的 惡 徒 ， 行 動 就 用 乖 僻 的 口 ，
13 用 眼 傳 神 ， 用 腳 示 意 ， 用 指 點 劃 ，
14 心 中 乖 僻 ， 常 設 惡 謀 ， 布 散 紛 爭 。
15 所 以 ， 災 難 必 忽 然 臨 到 他 身 ； 他 必 頃 刻 敗 壞 ， 無 法 可 治 。
16 耶 和 華 所 恨 惡 的 有 六 樣 ， 連 他 心 所 憎 惡 的 共 有 七 樣 ：
17 就 是 高 傲 的 眼 ， 撒 謊 的 舌 ， 流 無 辜 人 血 的 手 ，
18 圖 謀 惡 計 的 心 ， 飛 跑 行 惡 的 腳 ，
19 吐 謊 言 的 假 見 證 ， 並 弟 兄 中 布 散 紛 爭 的 人 。
20 我 兒 ， 要 謹 守 你 父 親 的 誡 命 ； 不 可 離 棄 你 母 親 的 法 則 （ 或 譯 ： 指 教 ） ，
21 要 常 繫 在 你 心 上 ， 掛 在 你 項 上 。
22 你 行 走 ， 他 必 引 導 你 ； 你 躺 臥 ， 他 必 保 守 你 ； 你 睡 醒 ， 他 必 與 你 談 論 。
23 因 為 誡 命 是 燈 ， 法 則 （ 或 譯 ： 指 教 ） 是 光 ， 訓 誨 的 責 備 是 生 命 的 道 ，
24 能 保 你 遠 離 惡 婦 ， 遠 離 外 女 諂 媚 的 舌 頭 。
25 你 心 中 不 要 戀 慕 他 的 美 色 ， 也 不 要 被 他 眼 皮 勾 引 。
26 因 為 ， 妓 女 能 使 人 只 剩 一 塊 餅 ； 淫 婦 獵 取 人 寶 貴 的 生 命 。
27 人 若 懷 裡 搋 火 ， 衣 服 豈 能 不 燒 呢 ？
28 人 若 在 火 炭 上 走 ， 腳 豈 能 不 燙 呢 ？
29 親 近 鄰 舍 之 妻 的 ， 也 是 如 此 ； 凡 挨 近 他 的 ， 不 免 受 罰 。
30 賊 因 飢 餓 偷 竊 充 飢 ， 人 不 藐 視 他 ，
31 若 被 找 著 ， 他 必 賠 還 七 倍 ， 必 將 家 中 所 有 的 盡 都 償 還 。
32 與 婦 人 行 淫 的 ， 便 是 無 知 ； 行 這 事 的 ， 必 喪 掉 生 命 。
33 他 必 受 傷 損 ， 必 被 凌 辱 ； 他 的 羞 恥 不 得 塗 抹 。
34 因 為 人 的 嫉 恨 成 了 烈 怒 ， 報 仇 的 時 候 決 不 留 情 。
35 甚 麼 贖 價 ， 他 都 不 顧 ； 你 雖 送 許 多 禮 物 ， 他 也 不 肯 干 休 。

Warnings Against Folly
6 My son,(A) if you have put up security(B) for your neighbor,(C)
if you have shaken hands in pledge(D) for a stranger,
2 you have been trapped by what you said,
ensnared by the words of your mouth.
3 So do this, my son, to free yourself,
since you have fallen into your neighbor’s hands:
Go—to the point of exhaustion—[a]
and give your neighbor no rest!
4 Allow no sleep to your eyes,
no slumber to your eyelids.(E)
5 Free yourself, like a gazelle(F) from the hand of the hunter,(G)
like a bird from the snare of the fowler.(H)
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard;(I)
consider its ways and be wise!
7 It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
8 yet it stores its provisions in summer(J)
and gathers its food at harvest.(K)
9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard?(L)
When will you get up from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest(M)—
11 and poverty(N) will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.
12 A troublemaker and a villain,
who goes about with a corrupt mouth,
13 who winks maliciously with his eye,(O)
signals with his feet
and motions with his fingers,(P)
14 who plots evil(Q) with deceit in his heart—
he always stirs up conflict.(R)
15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant;(S)
he will suddenly(T) be destroyed—without remedy.(U)
16 There are six things the Lord hates,(V)
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,(W)
a lying tongue,(X)
hands that shed innocent blood,(Y)
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,(Z)
19 a false witness(AA) who pours out lies(AB)
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.(AC)
Warning Against Adultery
20 My son,(AD) keep your father’s command
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.(AE)
21 Bind them always on your heart;
fasten them around your neck.(AF)
22 When you walk, they will guide you;
when you sleep, they will watch over you;
when you awake, they will speak to you.
23 For this command is a lamp,
this teaching is a light,(AG)
and correction and instruction
are the way to life,(AH)
24 keeping you from your neighbor’s wife,
from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.(AI)
25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty
or let her captivate you with her eyes.
26 For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread,
but another man’s wife preys on your very life.(AJ)
27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap
without his clothes being burned?
28 Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched?
29 So is he who sleeps(AK) with another man’s wife;(AL)
no one who touches her will go unpunished.
30 People do not despise a thief if he steals
to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
31 Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold,(AM)
though it costs him all the wealth of his house.
32 But a man who commits adultery(AN) has no sense;(AO)
whoever does so destroys himself.
33 Blows and disgrace are his lot,
and his shame will never(AP) be wiped away.
