28 Le méchant prend la fuite sans même qu'on le poursuive,
tandis que le juste a autant de confiance qu’un jeune lion.
2 Quand un pays est en révolte, ses chefs sont nombreux,
mais avec un homme qui a de l'intelligence et de la connaissance,
l’ordre est maintenu.
3 Un homme pauvre qui opprime les faibles
est une pluie dévastatrice qui prive de récolte.
4 Ceux qui abandonnent la loi font l’éloge du méchant,
mais ceux qui la respectent les combattent.
5 Les hommes adonnés au mal ne comprennent pas ce qui est juste,
tandis que ceux qui cherchent l'Eternel comprennent tout.
6 Mieux vaut un pauvre qui marche dans l’intégrité
qu’un riche qui emprunte des voies tortueuses.
7 Celui qui respecte la loi est un fils intelligent,
mais celui qui fréquente des voyous fait honte à son père.
8 Celui qui augmente ses biens à l’aide de l'intérêt et de taux excessifs
les amasse pour celui qui fait grâce aux plus faibles.
9 Si quelqu'un détourne l'oreille pour ne pas écouter la loi,
sa prière même fait horreur.
10 Celui qui égare les hommes droits dans la mauvaise voie
tombera dans la fosse qu'il a creusée,
mais les hommes intègres hériteront du bonheur.
11 L'homme riche se croit sage,
mais le faible qui est intelligent vérifie sa valeur.
12 Quand les justes triomphent, la gloire est générale;
quand les méchants gagnent en importance, chacun se cache.
13 Celui qui cache ses transgressions ne réussira pas,
mais on aura compassion de celui qui les reconnaît et les abandonne.
14 Heureux l'homme qui est constamment sur ses gardes!
En revanche, celui qui endurcit son cœur tombera dans le malheur.
15 Un lion rugissant, un ours affamé,
voilà ce qu’est le méchant qui domine sur un peuple sans ressources.
16 Un prince dépourvu d’intelligence multiplie les actes d'extorsion,
mais celui qui déteste le profit malhonnête prolongera sa vie.
17 Un homme chargé du sang d'un autre
fuit-il jusqu'à la tombe? Qu'on ne le retienne[a] pas!
18 Celui qui marche dans l'intégrité sera sauvé,
mais celui qui suit deux voies tortueuses tombera dans l'une d'elles.
19 Celui qui cultive son terrain est rassasié de pain,
celui qui poursuit des réalités sans valeur est rassasié de pauvreté.
20 Un homme fidèle est comblé de bénédictions,
mais celui qui est pressé de s'enrichir ne restera pas impuni.
21 Il n'est pas bon de se montrer partial.
Pourtant, des hommes sont prêts à la transgression en échange d’un morceau de pain.
22 L’homme envieux est pressé de s'enrichir,
mais il ne sait pas que la misère viendra sur lui.
23 Celui qui reprend les autres gagne finalement plus leur faveur
que celui dont la langue est flatteuse.
24 Celui qui vole son père et sa mère
et qui dit: «Ce n'est pas une transgression!»
est le complice des brigands.
25 L'homme trop ambitieux pousse au conflit,
mais c’est celui qui se confie en l'Eternel qui sera comblé.
26 Celui qui a confiance en son propre cœur est stupide,
mais celui qui marche dans la sagesse sera délivré.
27 Celui qui donne au pauvre ne connaît pas la misère,
mais ceux qui fuient son regard sont chargés de malédictions.
28 Quand les méchants gagnent en importance, chacun se cache,
et quand ils disparaissent, les justes se multiplient.

2 When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,
but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.
3 A ruler[a] who oppresses the poor
is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.
4 Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked,
but those who heed it resist them.
5 Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.
6 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than the rich whose ways are perverse.(D)
7 A discerning son heeds instruction,
but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.(E)
8 Whoever increases wealth by taking interest(F) or profit from the poor
amasses it for another,(G) who will be kind to the poor.(H)
9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
even their prayers are detestable.(I)
10 Whoever leads the upright along an evil path
will fall into their own trap,(J)
but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.
11 The rich are wise in their own eyes;
one who is poor and discerning sees how deluded they are.
12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;(K)
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.(L)
13 Whoever conceals their sins(M) does not prosper,
but the one who confesses(N) and renounces them finds mercy.(O)
14 Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.
15 Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.
16 A tyrannical ruler practices extortion,
but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign.
17 Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder
will seek refuge(P) in the grave;
let no one hold them back.
18 The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,(Q)
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall(R) into the pit.[b]
19 Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.(S)
20 A faithful person will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.(T)
22 The stingy are eager to get rich
and are unaware that poverty awaits them.(X)
23 Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor
rather than one who has a flattering tongue.(Y)
24 Whoever robs their father or mother(Z)
and says, “It’s not wrong,”
is partner to one who destroys.(AA)
27 Those who give to the poor will lack nothing,(AF)
but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.(AG)
28 When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding;(AH)
but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.

The Righteous Are Bold as a Lion
28 The (A)wicked flee when no one pursues,
But the righteous are bold as a lion.
2 Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes;
But by a man of understanding and knowledge
Right will be prolonged.
6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
7 Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son,
But a companion of gluttons shames his father.
8 One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion
Gathers it for him who will pity the poor.
9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the law,
(G)Even his prayer is an abomination.
10 (H)Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way,
He himself will fall into his own pit;
(I)But the blameless will inherit good.
11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes,
But the poor who has understanding searches him out.
12 When the righteous rejoice, there is great (J)glory;
But when the wicked arise, men [b]hide themselves.
13 (K)He who covers his sins will not prosper,
But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
14 Happy is the man who is always reverent,
But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a great (N)oppressor,
But he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.
17 (O)A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit;
Let no one help him.
18 Whoever walks blamelessly will be [c]saved,
But he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly fall.
19 (P)He who tills his land will have plenty of bread,
But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!
20 A faithful man will abound with blessings,
(Q)But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.
22 A man with an evil eye hastens after riches,
And does not consider that (T)poverty will come upon him.
23 (U)He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward
Than he who flatters with the tongue.
24 Whoever robs his father or his mother,
And says, “It is no transgression,”
The same (V)is companion to a destroyer.
25 (W)He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife,
(X)But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.
26 He who (Y)trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.
27 (Z)He who gives to the poor will not lack,
But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.
28 When the wicked arise, (AA)men hide themselves;
But when they perish, the righteous increase.

Nhưng nhờ một người sáng suốt và hiểu biết, nước được bền vững lâu dài.
3 Người khốn khó[a] áp bức người cùng khốn,
Khác nào trận mưa lớn không đem lại mùa màng.
4 Người từ bỏ Kinh Luật khen ngợi kẻ ác;
Còn người tuân giữ Kinh Luật chống lại chúng.
5 Người gian ác không hiểu sự công bình;
Còn người tìm kiếm CHÚA hiểu biết tất cả.
6 Thà nghèo nhưng sống ngay thẳng
Hơn là giàu có theo đường lối gian tà.
7 Ai tuân giữ Kinh Luật là đứa con sáng suốt;
Còn kết bạn với kẻ tham ăn uống làm nhục cha mình.
8 Người nào làm giàu nhờ cho vay nặng lãi
Tức là thu góp của cải cho người có lòng thương xót người nghèo.
9 Người nào ngoảnh tai không nghe theo Kinh Luật,
Lời cầu nguyện của người ấy cũng là sự gớm ghiếc.
10 Ai dẫn kẻ ngay thẳng vào đường ác
Sẽ rơi vào hố của chính mình;
Nhưng người vô tội sẽ thừa hưởng phúc lành.
11 Người giàu tự cho mình khôn ngoan,
Nhưng một người nghèo sáng suốt thấy rõ người.
12 Khi người công chính chiến thắng, có nhiều vinh hiển;
Nhưng khi kẻ ác nổi lên, người ta đi ẩn trốn.
13 Ai che giấu sự vi phạm mình sẽ không được thịnh vượng,
Nhưng người nào xưng ra và từ bỏ nó sẽ được thương xót.
14 Phước cho người nào luôn luôn kính sợ CHÚA;[b]
Nhưng kẻ có lòng chai đá sẽ rơi vào tai họa.
15 Kẻ ác cai trị dân nghèo,
Giống như sư tử gầm rống, như gấu rượt mồi.
16 Kẻ cai trị thiếu hiểu biết cũng lắm bạo tàn;
Người ghét lợi bất chính sẽ sống lâu.
17 Nếu người nào mang nợ máu của một sinh mạng,
Hãy để hắn làm kẻ trốn tránh cho đến chết,
Đừng có ai giúp đỡ nó.
18 Người nào bước đi ngay thẳng sẽ được giải cứu;
Kẻ theo đường lối gian tà sẽ sa ngã thình lình.
19 Người nào cày ruộng mình sẽ được đầy thực phẩm,
Nhưng kẻ theo đuổi hư không sẽ bị nghèo khó.
20 Người trung tín được nhiều phước lành,
Còn kẻ vội làm giàu ắt sẽ không tránh khỏi hình phạt.
21 Thiên vị là điều không tốt,
Nhưng vì một miếng bánh người ta có thể làm điều trái.
22 Người có mắt gian chạy theo giàu có,
Nhưng người không biết rằng sự mất mát sẽ đến.
23 Người nào quở trách một người,
Về sau sẽ được biết ơn hơn là kẻ dùng lưỡi nịnh hót.
24 Kẻ nào ăn cắp của cha mẹ rồi nói rằng
Ấy không phải là tội,
Kẻ ấy là bạn của kẻ phá hoại.
25 Kẻ tham lam gây ra tranh cãi,
Nhưng người nào tin cậy CHÚA sẽ được thịnh vượng.
26 Kẻ tin cậy nơi lòng mình là kẻ ngu dại,
Nhưng ai bước đi theo sự khôn ngoan sẽ được an toàn.
27 Người nào ban cho người nghèo sẽ không thiếu thốn,
Nhưng ai nhắm mắt làm ngơ sẽ gặp nhiều rủa sả.
28 Khi kẻ ác hưng thịnh người ta đi trốn,
Nhưng khi chúng bị hủy diệt, người công chính sẽ gia tăng.
