14 La femme sage bâtit sa maison, Et la femme insensée la renverse de ses propres mains.
2 Celui qui marche dans la droiture craint l'Éternel, Mais celui qui prend des voies tortueuses le méprise.
3 Dans la bouche de l'insensé est une verge pour son orgueil, Mais les lèvres des sages les gardent.
4 S'il n'y a pas de boeufs, la crèche est vide; C'est à la vigueur des boeufs qu'on doit l'abondance des revenus.
5 Un témoin fidèle ne ment pas, Mais un faux témoin dit des mensonges.
6 Le moqueur cherche la sagesse et ne la trouve pas, Mais pour l'homme intelligent la science est chose facile.
7 Éloigne-toi de l'insensé; Ce n'est pas sur ses lèvres que tu aperçois la science.
8 La sagesse de l'homme prudent, c'est l'intelligence de sa voie; La folie des insensés, c'est la tromperie.
9 Les insensés se font un jeu du péché, Mais parmi les hommes droits se trouve la bienveillance.
10 Le coeur connaît ses propres chagrins, Et un étranger ne saurait partager sa joie.
11 La maison des méchants sera détruite, Mais la tente des hommes droits fleurira.
12 Telle voie paraît droite à un homme, Mais son issue, c'est la voie de la mort.
13 Au milieu même du rire le coeur peut être affligé, Et la joie peut finir par la détresse.
14 Celui dont le coeur s'égare se rassasie de ses voies, Et l'homme de bien se rassasie de ce qui est en lui.
15 L'homme simple croit tout ce qu'on dit, Mais l'homme prudent est attentif à ses pas.
16 Le sage a de la retenue et se détourne du mal, Mais l'insensé est arrogant et plein de sécurité.
17 Celui qui est prompt à la colère fait des sottises, Et l'homme plein de malice s'attire la haine.
18 Les simples ont en partage la folie, Et les hommes prudents se font de la science une couronne.
19 Les mauvais s'inclinent devant les bons, Et les méchants aux portes du juste.
20 Le pauvre est odieux même à son ami, Mais les amis du riche sont nombreux.
21 Celui qui méprise son prochain commet un péché, Mais heureux celui qui a pitié des misérables!
22 Ceux qui méditent le mal ne s'égarent-ils pas? Mais ceux qui méditent le bien agissent avec bonté et fidélité.
23 Tout travail procure l'abondance, Mais les paroles en l'air ne mènent qu'à la disette.
24 La richesse est une couronne pour les sages; La folie des insensés est toujours de la folie.
25 Le témoin véridique délivre des âmes, Mais le trompeur dit des mensonges.
26 Celui qui craint l'Éternel possède un appui ferme, Et ses enfants ont un refuge auprès de lui.
27 La crainte de l'Éternel est une source de vie, Pour détourner des pièges de la mort.
28 Quand le peuple est nombreux, c'est la gloire d'un roi; Quand le peuple manque, c'est la ruine du prince.
29 Celui qui est lent à la colère a une grande intelligence, Mais celui qui est prompt à s'emporter proclame sa folie.
30 Un coeur calme est la vie du corps, Mais l'envie est la carie des os.
31 Opprimer le pauvre, c'est outrager celui qui l'a fait; Mais avoir pitié de l'indigent, c'est l'honorer.
32 Le méchant est renversé par sa méchanceté, Mais le juste trouve un refuge même en sa mort.
33 Dans un coeur intelligent repose la sagesse, Mais au milieu des insensés elle se montre à découvert.
34 La justice élève une nation, Mais le péché est la honte des peuples.
35 La faveur du roi est pour le serviteur prudent, Et sa colère pour celui qui fait honte.

14 En klog kvinde opbygger sit hjem,
en tåbelig kone river det ned.
2 Den, der vandrer ret, viser ærefrygt for Herren,
den, der er i oprør, viser sin foragt.
3 Tåbelige ord får ubehagelige følger,[a]
de vise tænker, før de taler.
4 Har man ingen okser, sparer man foderet,
men stærke trækdyr kan give en stor høst.
5 Et trofast vidne lyver aldrig,
et falsk vidne udspyr løgne.
6 Den, der arrogant søger visdom, finder den ikke,
men med ydmyg fornuft vinder man viden.
7 Hold dig borte fra tåben,
for dér får du ingen gode råd.
8 De kloge overvejer de skridt, de tager,
tåben går rundt i blinde.
9 Tåber er ligeglade med, om de synder,
de retskafne ønsker at gøre Guds vilje.
10 Ingen kan helt forstå en andens sorg
eller fuldt ud føle en andens glæde.
11 Den gudløses hjem går til grunde,
den gudfrygtiges familie blomstrer.
12 Man kan være helt sikker på at have ret
og alligevel ende med et nederlag.
13 Et smil kan dække over hjertesorg,
når smilet er væk, er smerten der stadig.
14 Den troløse må lide for sin utroskab,
den trofaste får sin belønning.
15 Den naive tror på hvad som helst,
den kloge tænker sig godt om.
16 Den kloge er forsigtig og holder sig fra det onde,
tåben er overmodig og uden hæmninger.
17 Den hidsige handler uoverlagt,
den fornuftige udholder meget.[b]
18 Den uforstandige øger sin dumhed,
den kloge vokser i visdom.
19 De onde skal bukke i respekt for de gode
og stå med hatten i hånden ved deres dør.
20 Den fattige har ingen venner,
men alle flokkes om den rige.
21 At se ned på den fattige[c] er syndigt,
men at hjælpe en stakkel giver velsignelse.
22 De, der har onde planer, ender i ulykke,
de, der har godt i sinde, oplever[d] trofast kærlighed.
23 Hårdt arbejde giver godt udbytte,
tom snak fører til fattigdom.
24 Den vises liv ender med succes,
tåbens liv ender i tåbeligheder.
25 Et sandfærdigt vidne redder liv,
et falsk vidne er en forræder.
26 De, der har ærefrygt for Herren, opnår fred og tryghed,
og deres børn beskyttes af Gud.
27 Ærefrygt for Herren er kilden til liv,
for den frelser fra dødens fælde.
28 En leder for et stort folk bliver æret,
men en konge uden et folk er intet værd.
29 Den, der er tålmodig, udviser klogskab,
den opfarende skilter med sin dumhed.
30 Fred i sindet giver helse til kroppen,
bitterhed[e] æder én op indefra.
31 At udnytte de magtesløse er at håne deres Skaber,
at hjælpe de nødlidende er at ære Gud.
32 Onde mennesker går til grunde i deres ondskab,
de retskafne er i sikkerhed, selv når døden banker på.[f]
33 Visdommen tager bolig i et forstandigt menneske,
men den finder ikke fodfæste i en tåbe.[g]
34 Retskaffenhed ophøjer en nation,
synd er en skamplet på ethvert folk.

14 The wise woman builds her house,(A)
but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
2 Whoever fears the Lord walks uprightly,
but those who despise him are devious in their ways.
4 Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty,
but from the strength of an ox(D) come abundant harvests.
5 An honest witness does not deceive,
but a false witness pours out lies.(E)
6 The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none,
but knowledge comes easily to the discerning.(F)
7 Stay away from a fool,
for you will not find knowledge on their lips.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways,(G)
but the folly of fools is deception.(H)
9 Fools mock at making amends for sin,
but goodwill is found among the upright.
10 Each heart knows its own bitterness,
and no one else can share its joy.
13 Even in laughter(M) the heart may ache,
and rejoicing may end in grief.
15 The simple believe anything,
but the prudent give thought to their steps.(P)

and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.(U)

2 He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,
(A)But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.
3 In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride,
(B)But the lips of the wise will preserve them.
4 Where no oxen are, the [a]trough is clean;
But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.
6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it,
But (E)knowledge is easy to him who understands.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man,
When you do not perceive in him the lips of (F)knowledge.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way,
But the folly of fools is deceit.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness,
And a stranger does not share its joy.
11 (H)The house of the wicked will be overthrown,
But the tent of the upright will flourish.
13 Even in laughter the heart may sorrow,
And (L)the end of mirth may be grief.
14 The backslider in heart will be (M)filled with his own ways,
But a good man will be satisfied [c]from (N)above.
15 The simple believes every word,
But the prudent considers well his steps.
16 (O)A wise man fears and departs from evil,
But a fool rages and is self-confident.
17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly,

22 Do they not go astray who devise evil?
But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.

But the foolishness of fools is folly.
26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence,
And His children will have a place of refuge.
27 (T)The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death.
28 In a multitude of people is a king’s honor,
But in the lack of people is the downfall of a prince.
31 (X)He who oppresses the poor reproaches (Y)his Maker,
But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
32 The wicked is banished in his wickedness,
But (Z)the righteous has a refuge in his death.
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding,
But (AA)what is in the heart of fools is made known.

But his wrath is against him who causes shame.
