³⁰ But when this son of yours who has squandered your property^(A) with prostitutes^(B) comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’

³⁶ Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread and plead,^(A) “Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat.^(B)”’”

¹³ “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth^(A) in wild living. ¹⁴ After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. ¹⁵ So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.^(B)

¹⁸ and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own?
