²⁶ If anyone ^[a]among you thinks he is religious, and ^(A)does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

Doers—Not Hearers Only

²¹ Therefore ^(A)lay aside all filthiness and ^[a]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, ^(B)which is able to save your souls.

Do Not Grieve the Spirit

²⁵ Therefore, putting away lying, ^(A)“Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for ^(B)we are members of one another. ^26 (C)“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, ^27 (D)nor give ^[a]place to the devil. ²⁸ Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather ^(E)let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something ^(F)to give him who has need. ^29 (G)Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but ^(H)what is good for necessary ^[b]edification, ^(I)that it may impart grace to the hearers. ³⁰ And ^(J)do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. ^31 (K)Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, ^[c]clamor, and ^(L)evil speaking be put away from you, ^(M)with all malice.
