잠언 4:1-4

4 내 아들들^[a]아
너희는 아버지의 가르침에 귀를 기울이고
그 말을 새겨 들어 슬기를 얻도록 하여라.
²나는 너희에게 건전한 것을 가르치니
너희는 내 가르침을 잊지 말아라.

³나도 내 아버지에게는 아들이었고
내 어머니에게는 사랑스러운 아들이었다.
⁴아버지는 내게 이렇게 가르치셨다.
“너는 내 말을 마음 깊이 간직하고 내 명령을 지켜라.
그러면 네가 살 것이다.

4:1 내 아들들아 잠언은 청년기로 접어들려는 십대의 소년을 위해 쓰인 듯하다. 이 책은 하나님을 사랑하고 존경하며 책임감 있는 젊은이가 되는 길을 가르치고 있다.

4 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

²For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

³For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

⁴He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
