⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and turn away from evil.^(A)

²⁸ And he said to humankind,
‘Truly, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
    and to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”^(A)

⁶ By loyalty and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for,
    and by the fear of the Lord one avoids evil.^(A)

¹² Do you see people wise in their own eyes?
    There is more hope for fools than for them.^(A)

²¹ Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
    and shrewd in their own sight!^(A)

²⁷ The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
    so that one may avoid the snares of death.^(A)
