⁸ Keep this Book of the Law^(A) always on your lips;^(B) meditate^(C) on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.^(D)

⁶ These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.^{(A) 7} Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.^{(B) 8} Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.^{(C) 9} Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.^(D)

⁴⁶ he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day,^(A) so that you may command^(B) your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. ⁴⁷ They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.^(C) By them you will live long^(D) in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

Warning to Pay Attention

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.^{(A) 2} For since the message spoken^(B) through angels^(C) was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,^{(D) 3} how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?^(E) This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord,^(F) was confirmed to us by those who heard him.^(G)

⁹ Only be careful,^(A) and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach^(B) them to your children^(C) and to their children after them.

²⁷ As for you, the anointing^(A) you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things^(B) and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.^(C)

⁶ If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.^{(A) 7} If you remain in me^(B) and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.^(C)
