⁷ A righteous man ^(A)knows the rights of the poor;
    a wicked man does not ^(B)understand such knowledge.

¹⁶ I was a father to the needy,
    and I searched out ^(A)the cause of him whom I did not know.

41 ^(A)Blessed is the one who considers the poor!^{[a]
    (B)}In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him;

^13 (A)Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor
    will himself call out and not be answered.

^8 (A)Open your mouth for the mute,
    for the rights of all who are destitute.^[a]
9 Open your mouth, ^(B)judge righteously,
    ^(C)defend the rights of ^(D)the poor and needy.

¹⁵ Do you think you are a king
    because you compete in cedar?
Did not your father eat and drink
    and ^(A)do justice and righteousness?
    ^(B)Then it was well with him.
^16 (C)He judged the cause of the poor and needy;
    ^(D)then it was well.
Is not this ^(E)to know me?
    declares the Lord.
¹⁷ But you have eyes and heart
    only for your dishonest gain,
^(F)for shedding innocent blood,
    and for practicing oppression and violence.”

^{28     (A)}they have grown fat and sleek.
They know no bounds in deeds of evil;
    ^(B)they judge not with justice
the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper,
    and they do not defend the rights of the needy.
