²⁴ The partner of a thief ^(A)hates his own life;
    ^(B)he hears the curse, but discloses nothing.

³⁶ but he who fails to find me ^(A)injures himself;
    all who ^(B)hate me ^(C)love death.”

¹¹ If they say, “Come with us, ^(A)let us lie in wait for blood;
    ^(B)let us ambush the innocent without reason;
¹² like Sheol let us ^(C)swallow them alive,
    and whole, like ^(D)those who go down to the pit;
¹³ we shall find all precious goods,
    we shall fill our houses with plunder;
¹⁴ throw in your lot among us;
    we will all have one purse”—
¹⁵ my son, ^(E)do not walk in the way with them;
    ^(F)hold back your foot from their paths,
¹⁶ for ^(G)their feet run to evil,
    and they make haste to shed blood.
^17 (H)For in vain is a net spread
    in the sight of any bird,
¹⁸ but these men ^(I)lie in wait for their own blood;
    they ^(J)set an ambush for their own lives.
^19 (K)Such are the ways of everyone who is ^(L)greedy for unjust gain;
    ^(M)it takes away the life of its possessors.

¹⁸ If you see a thief, ^(A)you are pleased with him,
    ^(B)and you keep company with adulterers.

²³ Your princes are rebels
    and companions of thieves.
Everyone ^(A)loves a bribe
    and runs after gifts.
^(B)They do not bring justice to the fatherless,
    and the widow's cause does not come to them.

³² Whoever ^(A)ignores instruction ^(B)despises himself,
    but he who listens to reproof ^(C)gains intelligence.

³² He who commits adultery lacks sense;
    he who does it destroys himself.
