³⁶ But he who sins against me ^(A)wrongs his own soul;
All those who hate me love death.”

^23 (A)Your princes are rebellious,
And ^(B)companions of thieves;
^(C)Everyone loves bribes,
And follows after rewards.
They ^(D)do not defend the fatherless,
Nor does the cause of the widow come before them.

¹¹ If they say, “Come with us,
Let us ^(A)lie in wait to shed blood;
Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;
¹² Let us swallow them alive like ^[a]Sheol,
And whole, ^(B)like those who go down to the Pit;
¹³ We shall find all kinds of precious ^[b]possessions,
We shall fill our houses with ^[c]spoil;
¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us,
Let us all have one purse”—
¹⁵ My son, ^(C)do not walk in the way with them,
^(D)Keep your foot from their path;
^16 (E)For their feet run to evil,
And they make haste to shed blood.
¹⁷ Surely, in ^[d]vain the net is spread
In the sight of any ^[e]bird;
¹⁸ But they lie in wait for their own blood,
They lurk secretly for their own lives.
^19 (F)So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain;
It takes away the life of its owners.

¹⁸ When you saw a thief, you ^(A)consented^[a] with him,
And have been a ^(B)partaker with adulterers.
¹⁹ You give your mouth to evil,
And ^(C)your tongue frames deceit.
²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother’s son.
²¹ These things you have done, and I kept silent;
^(D)You thought that I was altogether like you;
But I will rebuke you,
And ^(E)set them in order before your eyes.

³² He who disdains instruction despises his own soul,
But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding.

³² Whoever commits adultery with a woman ^(A)lacks understanding;
He who does so destroys his own soul.
