²² The stingy are eager to get rich
    and are unaware that poverty awaits them.^(A)

²⁰ A faithful person will be richly blessed,
    but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.^(A)

¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver like dust^(A)
    and clothes like piles of clay,^(B)
17 what he lays up^(C) the righteous will wear,^(D)
    and the innocent will divide his silver.^(E)

¹⁸ What he toiled for he must give back uneaten;^(A)
    he will not enjoy the profit from his trading.^(B)
19 For he has oppressed the poor^(C) and left them destitute;^(D)
    he has seized houses^(E) he did not build.

²⁰ “Surely he will have no respite from his craving;^(F)
    he cannot save himself by his treasure.^(G)
21 Nothing is left for him to devour;
    his prosperity will not endure.^(H)
22 In the midst of his plenty, distress will overtake him;^(I)
    the full force of misery will come upon him.^(J)
