³ They replied, “The remnant there in the province who escaped captivity are in great trouble and shame; the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been destroyed by fire.”^(A)

⁵ Hezekiah^[a] strengthened himself and built up the entire wall that was broken down and raised towers on it,^[b] and outside it he built another wall; he also strengthened the Millo in the city of David and made weapons and shields in abundance.^(A)

³⁰ Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan. He said to him, “You son of a rebellious woman!^[a] Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness?^(A)
