³⁰ Blows that wound cleanse away evil;
    beatings make clean the innermost parts.

¹⁵ Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
    but the rod of discipline drives it far away.^(A)

²⁵ Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence;
    reprove the intelligent, and they will gain knowledge.^(A)

⁵ But he was wounded for our transgressions,
    crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
    and by his bruises we are healed.^(A)

⁹ Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated,
    and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin:
when he makes all the stones of the altars
    like chalkstones crushed to pieces;
    no sacred poles^[a] or incense altars will remain standing.^(A)
