¹² It will save you from the way of evil,
    from those who speak perversely,

²⁰ Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
    but the companion of fools suffers harm.^(A)

¹³ The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
    and perverted speech I hate.^(A)

¹⁷ Therefore come out from them,
    and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch nothing unclean;
    then I will welcome you,^(A)

³ For your hands are defiled with blood
    and your fingers with iniquity;
your lips have spoken lies;
    your tongue mutters wickedness.^(A)
4 No one brings suit justly;
    no one goes to law honestly;
they rely on empty pleas; they speak lies,
    conceiving mischief and bearing iniquity.^(B)
5 They hatch adders’ eggs
    and weave the spider’s web;
whoever eats their eggs dies,
    and the crushed egg hatches out a viper.^(C)

²⁸ A perverse person spreads strife,
    and a whisperer separates close friends.^(A)
29 The violent entice their neighbors
    and lead them in a way that is not good.^(B)
30 One who winks the eyes plans^[a] perverse things;
    one who compresses the lips brings evil to pass.

⁶ Lay aside immaturity and live,
    and walk in the way of insight.”^(A)

¹⁴ Do not enter the path of the wicked,
    and do not walk in the way of evildoers.^(A)
15 Avoid it; do not go on it;
    turn away from it and pass on.
¹⁶ For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong;
    they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble.^(B)
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness
    and drink the wine of violence.
