False Prophets and Teachers

But (A)false prophets also arose among the people, (B)just as there will be false teachers among you, who will (C)secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master (D)who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth (E)will be blasphemed. And (F)in their greed they will exploit you (G)with false words. (H)Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Some Will Depart from the Faith

Now (A)the Spirit expressly says that (B)in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to (C)deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of (D)liars whose consciences are seared,

And then (A)the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus (B)will kill with (C)the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by (D)the appearance of his coming. The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan (E)with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for (F)those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

15 And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, (A)the Lord has not sent you, (B)and you have made this people trust in a lie. 16 Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, (C)because you have uttered rebellion against the Lord.’”

25 I have heard what the prophets have said (A)who prophesy lies in my name, saying, (B)‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26 How long shall there be lies in the heart of (C)the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, 27 who think to make my people forget my name (D)by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their (E)fathers forgot my name for Baal? 28 (F)Let the prophet who has a dream (G)tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. (H)What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord. 29 (I)Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and (J)like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? 30 (K)Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord, who steal my words from one another. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord, who use their tongues and declare, ‘declares the Lord.’ 32 Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and (L)lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when (M)I did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

17 Therefore the Lord does not (C)rejoice over their young men,

for everyone is (D)godless and an evildoer,
