²⁵ Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence;
    reprove the intelligent, and they will gain knowledge.^(A)

¹¹ When a scoffer is punished, the simple become wiser;
    when the wise are instructed, they increase in knowledge.^(A)

¹⁰ A rebuke strikes deeper into a discerning person
    than a hundred blows into a fool.

⁵ A fool despises a parent’s instruction,
    but the one who heeds admonition is prudent.^(A)

⁸ Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you;
    rebuke the wise, and he will love you.^(A)
9 Give instruction^[a] to the wise, and they will become wiser still;
    teach the righteous, and they will gain in learning.^(B)
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
    and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.^(C)
