¹² For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.^(A)

⁶ But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has performed a good service for me. ⁷ For you always have the poor with you, and you can show kindness to them whenever you wish, but you will not always have me.^{(A) 8} She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for its burial.^(B)

² in the hope of eternal life that God, who never lies, promised before the ages began^(A)—

² for during a severe ordeal of affliction their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. ³ For, as I can testify, they voluntarily gave according to their means and even beyond their means,

The Widow’s Offering

⁴¹ He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.^{(A) 42} A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. ⁴³ Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury.^{(B) 44} For all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

⁸ But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to consider building a house for my name;
